Comments (59)Teppy, In my gut I know that I will not do as good a job as you did if I try to paint on my own. You have excellent taste and are very meticulous. Me....not so much. I do have a laundry room I can experiment with if I need to. I am definitely going to get a quote from a painting company, think I found one, that paints woodwork, cabinet and such. They do a lot of work for builders and had excellent pictures online. I have to get an exterior quote as well. When I get closer to actually beginning I'll post before pictures. I tried previously but couldn't figure it out. Maybe I'll take a look again this weekend. Yes, there is enough room for walking if the seating is added. It would be so nice for entertaining, cooking with the kids, kids doing homework etc. We have an eating nook that accomodates only a 48" round table comfortablly so the extra space would be nice plus it's just more social. I want to compare the painting cost vs. refacing. I'm actually hoping it's not that different because then the KD w/the refacing company could be the GC for the whole job whereas if we go the painting route I'll have find a GC on my own. Will defenitely try to figure out the picture deal so I can post. Thanks for the responses. Z....See MoreBacksplash for Sea Pearl Quartzite - Help!!
Comments (19)lmgch - I remember your kitchen; so beautiful! Your backsplash is lovely. I recall it's from Porcelanosa, correct? I considered getting a sample when you posted your reveal, but we have no Porcelanosa dealers in my state. I do like that there is a pattern in yours; it adds a nice touch. herbflavor - I understand what you're saying. Agree that we need something that pulls it all together. My concern about mosaics is that they are trendy (of course, the same could be said about white subways with gray grout). eam44 - I loved the Fireclay Hydrangea immediately. My search actually began with glass and glass mosaics. The Sea Pearl evokes feelings of coastal, so I thought glass might work. I almost went with the green glass mosaic below, then thought glass in general would be too trendy. I want something unique (I know...subways are not!) that is neutral enough to not steal the show from the Sea Pearl. I had ruled these out (marble - too bathroomy?, glass - too trendy?)...maybe I should revisit. So unsure!!...See MoreCould use advice on this backsplash for kitchen remodel
Comments (48)This is glass tile from Fireclay Tile in Jasmine. It comes in matte and gloss in the same color and would look great with your cabinets and stones. It's shown in 2" x 8" here but available in other sizes as well, and can be mounted horizontally or vertically. Below it is their ceramic tile in Shell, also available in many shapes and sizes. I know you're looking primarily at glass, but the ceramic tile has some beautiful color variations and crazing and would lighten things up a bit. Do you have a tile budget in $/sf?...See MoreBlack granite counters with matching backsplash in leathered finish?
Comments (18)I have leathered antique brown granite. It is actually black despite the name. I really like it. You could have your perimeter counters installed and then decide after if you want to continue the black on the backsplash. You might find that it is too dark. One unexpected nice thing about the leathered finish is that at night, when the lights are on inside but it's dark outside, little shiny patterns appear when a place on the countertop catches the light just so. It's a nice little surprise. And I do find that it hides fingerprints pretty much 100%. On our island we have polished white macaubus quartzite. I like the contrast, but not everyone likes so many different finishes in a kitchen. Agree about the by-the-hour designer if you can find one that will do that. A few hours here and there from a designer when I was doing the kitchen was really helpful. I think over the course of the whole remodel, I had 3 meetings of about an hour each to choose materials, discuss some wonky things about the cabinets and make a decision, and then near the end to make some final finishing touch decisions....See Moregdrange1
