Layout opinions please before final design
Comments (10)Thank you holligator! The hole in my kitchen floor finally got covered up and the monstrosity that held the oven has been removed. Now I can visualize the space a little better. I've downloaded a bunch of programs to try and see a plan in 3D but none of them will work with my laptop. I'm having a terrible time trying to visualize the layout altogether. I still like the first design so far because I think the Fridge will work the best in that corner. I can back it through the wall and have it line up with the cabinets. If it's in the other spots it will stick out too far. I'll have a better feel for that as well when it gets delivered next week. Here's what the space looks like right now: From Kitchen Design Would having the L on these two walls work? I'd have to make the island smaller unless I made the L into a horseshoe with seats on one side? OMG I'm driving myself crazy. From Kitchen Design Here's a view of the other side of the kitchen. a balcony/deck runs along side that wall. I think I'm just leery of closing the door up. Everyone keeps telling me to open the wall or take it down. Then I'd have nothing but open space and no where to put any artwork. It feels like a fishbowl with all these windows. I guess I'm just having a hard time getting used to the place. From Kitchen Design...See MoreTake 2: New small kitchen layout. Opinions please!
Comments (5)Blfenton, good point about building in extra shelving or storage under the overhang. I will look into it. Technicolor, I am going back and forth on closing up the kitchen entry wall. I am waiting to hear whether a pillar hidden in that wall will be enough support to replace the rest of the wall. If that saves $$, then it will be the way to go. Then I would have space for the appliances too. Sena, good idea about the shallow cabinet. Will try it in the planner. The door swing can be changed but it could clash with the outside door. In the summer we use that door a lot and I can already envision a crash, bang sequence! Somebody had once suggested to take down the entire wall till the shoe closet and replace it with a railing. We liked that idea but it might not be a smart thing to do with regards to heating and cooling zones. Will investigate that angle further.. Thanks for all the suggestions! Please feel free to add more-I am still in the tweaking stage....See MorePlease help me with our Kitchen Layout. All opinions appreciated
Comments (4)I Love all the windows! It doesn't look like you have a lot of room for upper cabinets, so will you also have dish storage under the island, in dish drawers or something? I'm imagining making sandwiches, snacks, breakfast. The dishes are probably near the dishwasher, but most of what you need (meat, cheese, milk, lettuce) is way on the other side of the island. Then when your clear the table, you are walking around the probably-open dishwasher to get to the disposal in the sink. So the DW should probably go on the other side of the sink, with dish drawers in the island across from the range. You're on a farm, right? You might want a utility sink in the laundry or mud room. ( I miss my old double concrete sink!)...See MoreKitchen Design & Layout Opinions/Critique Please
Comments (149)Mark, I realize there is no malice that is why I included the free pass & LOL I was just pointing out the differences. For future reference if you want to irritate a Timber Frame owner just call it a post and beam. If I was to guess I do not think there are a lot of Timber Frame designers or owners here. It is an entirely different animal which lends credence to your statement, "that the method of construction influences the design of the structure, which it seams few people realize. " I am still all in on your your amazingly appropriate statement, The structure creates "square hole" that do not fit Houzzer's "round pegs". it sums it up the best. On another note remember " prarie" how about seams? seems :)...See MoreBT
