Thursday's Blooms

The heat is coming on. The blast furnace over the next two days. Between the rain and the heat, hybridizing has been extremely limited.

Frieda Allen Jerrell as a poly.

Here is the first ever bloom with Frieda Allen Jerrell as the pod parent. I do not know who the father is. It is a 7 inch bloom. If all the blooms look like this, then it will stick around for further evaluations. This picture was taken at 5 pm when the temps made it to 90.

SILOAM RALPH HENRY: When it is good, it is good. I find that this one more than any other daylily in the garden really needs a lot of water to perfom this well.

Hush Little Baby: Very popular in the spring when I was selling it.

Ledgewood's Jumpstart

Fat and Foxy: Another Bennett pink.

APRIL LAQUINTA: A Petit that manages to hang in there and I end up keeping

SKINNY DIPPER: A bonus plant from Ed Zahler. Different looking bloom.

Lavender Flytrap: A better looking bloom.

What is the height on your Frieda seedling, since the parent is rather short? It looks taller than Frieda. The color certainly is appealing. Jumpstart never performed well for me, and I lost patience. I can remember when tet Siloam Ralph Henry came out, it was hailed as a great breeding plant, but I don't think it produced much. One thing it did produce, however, is April LaQuinta, which indeed can throw some dazzling blooms.

Such a bounty of beautiful rebloomers! I couldn't help but chuckle when I saw the Bird Talk photo. Now that you have verified its ID, it decides to look like it's supposed to. LOL! It's quite pretty in this photo. My three top favorites are Crazy Ivan, Songwriter and Mary's Baby. I love the Romanian Rendevouz twins in their pale state, and Filled to Overflowing is a real looker too. Offtopic, check the bud scars on your Black Fathom Depths. Thanks all for the comments. I think I have around 14 daylilies that still have not opened. I cleaned up the blooms tonight as the weather for tomorrow is hot, hot, hot and will feel like over 100 with the humidity. Inca Puzzle must be somewhere around 10+ fans. I was surprised how many buds opened today on it. Usually would get 3 or 4 at a time. The deep color is always on Lavender Blue Baby and I suspected it is the soil. I don't feed any established daylilies. Only new ones get a dose of alfalfa pellets when planted and additional watering otherwise the rest are on their own. Debra: The foliage on Cerise Masterpiece is narrow/slim and not wide and lush. It doesn't get many buds here either. Those are rudbeckia with Open Door. Vertical Horizon and Isabelle Rose are my favorites. Vertical Horizon has been on my wish list for several years. Let me know how it goes with hybridizing with that one. I have both Neon Flamingo and White Eyes Pink Dragon. I like the bloom on Neon Flamingo better, but White Eyes is definitely the better plant here. Debra

Oh, Sherry, I know I am far behind in checking posts and commenting but please tell me it is not Friday already!!! :) Even here in the south we have had some low temps in the mornings that causes blooms not to open well. Blue Beetle looks good. Has it ever doubled for you? Undercurrent is always such a pretty color for you. A great photo of Free Wheelin-maybe it wants to make up in looks what it doesn’t in multiplying. Great color on Soco Gap.

I really like the looks of your seedling! I saw Siloam Ralph Henry at a daylily show a few years ago, the size and look of it really impressed me - good to know your thoughts on it.

It is also slow to increase and does not like to be moved. It has increased enough that I will need to disturb it. What I did in preparation for the eventuality of having to divide it, is when I got it as a double fan, I divided it and spaced them out far enough as to only needing to dig up half the clump without disturbing the other. I will probably keep one fan from the clump I am dividing and line the other ones out.
