I would ask your neighbors...if they are treating them they will be able to help with advice....or if not they can fill you in on whether it is nothing to worry about..also nice to make friends with fellow gardeners...ask several people so you can get several opinions and find someone you might like to talk to in the future if you have more questions...most gardeners love to share their knowledge....

We get beetles for two or three years in a row ...then none for two or three or more...I always think they maybe serving some useful purpose so If they are not too annoying or causing too much damage I try to share my garden with them...

They might possibly be June bugs, and if so a nematode application would be a good idea to get rid of the grubs that live in the ground which will become future generations of June bugs. The bugs themselves are food for different birds, toads, opossums, moles and skunks. The bugs themselves don't cause much damage, apparently. The grubs in the ground, however, eat the roots of plants and therefore are a garden pest.

I saw one in my Perle D’or and according to the insect app it’s the oriental beetle (not the Japanese beetle) ...I usually let beetles be in the garden but this time I didn’t want to risk to have another pest on roses. I found another today on the Havana Blues geranium...same fate, cup of soapy water ah well.

Here we have Golden Tortoise Beetles that look similar that eat up all my morning glory and moonflowers. I dont know what else they eat.

June Bugs we have here do not bother our plants...Lawns might be a different story though..

They are asiatic beetles. They eat and kill all of my roses (I have about 150 roses too). I haven't found or figured out a solution to rid my garden of these pests. Whatever you do, DO NOT squish them. I have read they emit pheromones when squished that draw in even more beetles. Drown them in soapy water. I'm on the south shore on MA and they ruin my garden every year.

Wherever in the US a body is located the nearest USDA Cooperative Extension Service office should be tried for identification of mystery bugs. They will need samples. If live be sure they can't escape containers used for transporting them.
