what are these bugs and how do I get rid of them
Comments (5)I agree that they are red aphids and they are sucking the good from the plants. A forceful spray with cold water helps or try insecticidal soap. Mix with water as per package instructions and spray the plant. The soap will also kill any eggs and it is completely safe. Then watch to see if you've missed any....See MoreI what's this stain on granite and how do get rid of it?
Comments (2)I believe it is actually a very small amount of rust in your water source (from somewhere in your water supply). It takes very little in the water to make a stain, and accumulates over a long time. I had the same thing in my granite around the faucet after 8+ years, for example. I would look into using a rust removal chemical, Carbona makes a good one, but perhaps try a bit in the back w/ a cotton swab to first, or on a granite sample, before risking harming your granite. Good luck....See MoreBugs! What are they & how do I get rid of them?
Comments (9)Ed......they're still kicking. In the 2nd pick, it's raining. Water makes them scatter. I posted in the Garden Clinic...per Julias suggestion. I'm told they're pollen beetles. They don't seem to be causing any damage to the foliage....just really ugly! I can dump them out of the flower blossoms and throw them away....seems to be the most organic means to their "end"....See MoreWhat are these bugs and how do I get rid of them?
Comments (4)Those are aphids. If you don't use insecticides, natural predators such as lacewings, ladybugs and hoverflies will show up later and reduce populations. Meanwhile, if the aphids are overwhelming the plant, you can knock them off with your hands or a good spray of water. Your young Ping Dong Yue Ji rose would benefit from a good shower. The water will also wash off the aphid's sticky "honey dew" that can attract ants. The white objects are aphid carcasses. I don't worry about aphids as much as I used to. I want the beneficial insects well fed so that they will reproduce and take care of the thrips that arrive later in the season....See Morejetty612
