Agree with Jan. Your island as posted is small. Length (drop) is described by Jan. But width has more to fo with actual size of island. Can you post your island size please.

you could also consider a surface mount. We have 8' ceilings in our kitchen under construction (parlor level of our row home...just the way it was in 1901).

I read somewhere on here that using pendants with 8' ceilings gives the look of "corgi legs" and i just couldn't get that out of my mind ever since.

Pendants are fine with 8 foot ceilings. You just need good SELECTIONS appropriate to ceiling height, and island

Thank you Jan! I’ll get back on the info of the island size. Another dilemma, I’m painting the kitchen cabinets SW extra white on the uppers and SW Cascades a dark beautifully rich green on lowers and island. I have a section where the double oven and fridge nook are connected. Do I paint that whole section white or cascades?

Save the cascade for JUST the island :) and don't cut the kitchen In half!!

HHHMMM, Im not sold, that black tin pendants really work in this kitchen. Because of the size and shape of the space, seems either none, or some "softer" look may be better.

If you’re doing dark lowers, I would do cascades because the oven and fridge section are flush with the lowers (whereas the uppers are set back) so I think the change in color to light would be noticeable.

I understand Kirsten's reasoning. If you follow it, it seems like the refrigerator cabinets will also have to be the green. That might be pretty dark. Here's a kitchen where they used white (the top cabinet color) in a similar ovens/refrigerator corner.

Love the kitchen in barncatz photo! I think it would be worth getting a rendering of both options to see if it would be too dark, because that is an important concern, and also very space-dependent.

Another benefit of going white, even if it’s greater contrast with the lowers, is more blend with the SS appliances. It’s really personal preference at the end of the day; I think both could look great!

Did you end up getting the butte pendants?
