Should I get these spirea replaced?

I had a landscaper design and install plants in my front beds, and I love the design. However, the spirea are really struggling and do not look healthy to me. One is absolutely dead, one looks sickly, and the other two are questionable. The landscaper has a one year guarantee. What are your thoughts on the two that look sickly? The rest of the plants look very robust; only the spirea are not thriving. And we have been watering them. Attached is the best of the four spirea.

Spiraeas are incredibly tough, durable plants. As one member who frequents these forums likes to point out, you can drive over them with a truck and they will rebound and regrow promptly :-) Exercise that guarantee and have them replaced (although I would wait until later in the season - now is NOT a good time for planting!).

I am not sure what is the issue with your current ones but water would be at the top of my list. First, they will need much more water to get established than the juniper in the background. And second, if the rootball was not properly hydrated before planting, it is extremely difficult to rewet or hydrate properly once in the ground, despite how frequently you may be watering.

Yeah that's R22 and while that is a builder grade Trane unit that is probably out of warranty by now... typically those were sold with 5 year parts warranty. Because R22 Freon was already obsolete by 2013. With that said, this condenser 'could' last another 10 years, provided the coil repair work is done appropriately. The replacement coil needs to be a coil suitable for R22 / any coil can be retro fitted to work, but skill is required in choosing the coil. Typically home warranty companies are known for tom foolery. If the condenser was a dry condenser (nitrogen gas) it would say it was on the data plate in some manner. That's the down side in anything Trane or American Standard because they were one of the last manufacture's to switch over to R410a refrigerant. The R22 conundrum only effects you if there is a leak... otherwise it doesn't matter much. While the cost for it will only go up now that production has ceased, it's serviceable life is still around another 10 years or so. Without United Technologies Corporation heavy investment in R410a AC equipment development we would be no where near where we are today. R410a equipment has been available now for almost 20 years if you can imagine that.

Hybrid is a term in this industry to depict two fuels most often gas/electric heat pump. You being in the cold Niagara Mohawk territory would definitely need to go with gas as an additional stage as an electric resistance coil would murder your energy bill. So your choices would be heat pump + gas furnace (efficiency of your choice) or HP with AC air handler with hot water coil of boiler. Just to get to it quick, I would do this: Keep Hydronic heating system as, nothing is more comfortable in WNY except radiant floor heat. Go with a modulating high efficiency condensing boiler that resets output temp based on outdoor temp Such as this: http://www.triangletube.com/CondensingBoilers/PrestigeOverview.htm Perhaps add this to boiler for high efficiency, quick recovery domestic water heating: http://www.triangletube.com/Residential/ProductIWH.htm And for AC, go with a high velocity system for ease of install to existing home: http://www.comfortprosystems.com/QuietAir_1326.asp The above option can be a heat pump or have a hot water coil added, especially if you wish to filter. Thanks Baymee: Looked at that fuel comparison, seems like oil replacement is the best option. At my age (61) I also have to look at payback time. Here in B.C. Canada, we have gotten a price for a new 86% effecient oil-boiler at $3600 installed. And we already have a 250 gallon tank. Wheras, the propane boiler is $7500 plus, including installation. As for daddo, yea, could look at cheaper fuel, but we do buy the more expensive bio-fuel. 20%canola-80%oil. Eases my conscience a bit-lol. Just in case you guys were wondering what it costs to heat a 1700 sq.ft. home here, it goes like this= 4 cords firewood-$660-60 gallons propane-$275, and this years total oil bill was-$720. or approximately $1700 per year. I suppose in todays world, that isn`t all that bad. The reason for the different heat sources is this old house is a four level split. *And when the power goes out cause of a wind storm, we like to have that back-up. Thanks again for the feedback. I have an older 24" oven, and I've done some research in the event we have to replace it. Most of the 24" models are European brands, and certainly most with convection are European. In your price range, Fagor and Bosch are probably your best bets. Someone on the Appliance forum has a Fagor 24" oven, and there are some posts about it there. Bosch, of course, is more widely available. Neither of those will have temperature probes; for that, you would probably need to step up about $1,000 over your budget to Miele.

We got our quote in early October 2018, but due to lots of rain they did not install until early December. The spirea never looked good, all the other plants really took off once spring rolled around and are really thriving now. We have watered diligently during the few dry spells we’ve had. I texted the landscaper about a month ago that they weren’t doing well and she thought maybe they did not root due to the late install.

Could be rootbound when planted. I would definitely have them replaced. Dig one out and have a look at the root ball.
