Mold Growth in House - advice needed!

We had a large amount of water in our house last week which covered our living room floor. A restoration company came in same day and installed about 16 fans and 3 or 4 dehumidifiers and left them for 1 week. The hardwood floor is warped and will need to be replaced (about a 4 week project). However, we were planning on having a 3-day house party in 4 weeks. Apparently, our floor is dry, and the fans have been removed. Is it safe to put off replacing the floors until after the party, or is mold growth a worry? We already have allergies as it is, but it is a big step to consider canceling our visitors. What should we do?

I would cancel the party and make sure to get things done. A party, just isnt worth the time, and the money and the fact that it could cause health problems, at least to me. I would postpone it until all is done. You may find dampness under the floors. The old hardwood should be removed right away, so that anything below it gets a chance to thoroughly dry. You cant put new hardwood on a floor with moisture in it, anyway.

Personally I'd have the party, then replace the floor. I'd buy a small dehumidifier and set it up to drain in a toilet, sink or shower so it can run all the time, and have a few fans to circulate air. It seems unlikely that anything dangerous would propagate within that time frame. It would also give you time to get bids and set up the work for right after the party. Depending on what type of floor you have and how wet it got, you might see some improvement in the condition after four weeks.

Have you been into the attic? Is there evidence of a leak from above? Bathroom ceilings are weak point in any home. A good fan should be installed with a dehumidistat switch and a programmable timer. Your electrician can add these devices so your home has one fan on a timer and a dehumidistat to kick in when humidity builds up. I like to use Zissner Red Label primer (2 coats over fresh drywall) and a top of the line oil paint in my bathroom projects. Often the ceiling in the bathtub is dropped to about 7' in older homes and most times can be raised with out much effort - this helps reduce the number of water droplets that form after a shower. Also the heat requirements for the room might be low or there is not enough of an airspace under the bathroom door to aid in cross ventilation. A starting point... Paintguy, Thanks for the input, I'm not home at the moment but am going to check to make sure that Oil was used on my place and then will check with a few neighbors to see exactly what was used on their house. Hoping that they used Acrylic so that there's an explanation. If I use Jomax/Bleach to clean everything up, can Acrylic be applied right over the Oil based stuff? Would it hurt to add a mold inhibitor to the Acrylic for the belt/suspenders approach? What exterior opaque acrylic and mold inhibitor brand would you recommend? Lastly, (this is more or less common sense 101) but... when I cover the place in jomax/bleach and then powerwash it, I really need to be on a ladder angling the sprayer down so that I don't drive water under the boards-no? I'd love to be lazy and try to powerwash from the ground but could be asking for trouble. Thanks for your help.

Those look great! Ive done quite alot of reading during last year and found that rockwool seems to be popular amongst commercial greenhouses and since I have a dream to maybe open one some day I thought I should start testing them now. Im quite convinced that Ive been over watering them and possibly over feeding. The cubes has been too saturated leading to heavy algae growth and stunted plants. I filled the tray they stand in with water, letting the cubes soak up from the bottom. But to make sure all cubes got some water I filled the trays with water, letting them stand in water for up towards a day before it evaporised/plants used it. Yesturday I transplanted about 30 more plants to the bigger cubes, leaving 30 left in small cubes to be transplanted in a couple of days. I now have about 60 plants in the bigger cubes and they seem to be recovering and starting to grow now at last.
