Planting New Daylilies Today
Comments (6)Real quick, everybody, just an update. I ordered nine daylilies from B. Selman and he sent SEVEN bonus plants. I could hardly believe it when I opened the box. Our planting plans had to be increased, as you can imagine. Here is my order: Stardust Heiress, Reforma Boulevard, Hazel Ballard, Zip Boo Bah, Childish Dream, Tribal Council, Alabama Jubilee, Uncle Henry Of Oz, and Palace Garden Beauty. These are all planted. Right now we are almost done planting the bonus plants. The only ones I am familiar with are Big Sur (hot pink) and Grey Witch ( greyish lavender). Grey Witch is very much liked by Floota. Julie Covington, President of AHS at this time. The others are Collard Dream (red) Storm Over Toledo (purple) Light Of Heaven ( cream) Moon Music (cream with yellow edge) and Abundant Ruffles (yellow). Julia, know how frustrated you must feel with the ongoing cold weather, but maybe it will let up and turn to spring soon. Kay, I am so happy the calibrachoa came back for you. I plant to take pictures of ours later this afternoon, plus other spring bloomers and hope to get them posted tonight. Linda, having wonderful time looking at your photos. Comments (21)Thats about how mine on the North side of the house performed as well. They are beautiful and I love the scent. We lost a beautiful Hibiscus this year on the east side, but lo and behold, another Brunfelsia is growing literally out from under the roots of the hibiscus. I am going to try to get this new Brunfelsia to grow as full as possible. Right now, it's some leggy branches with some leaves and flowers, but I really need to get it to fill in some more. Any suggestions on how to get it going? Can I prune it to stimulate some growth in order to get it to fill in more?...See MorePictures of my winter bloomers
Comments (17)Thanks for the messages and words of encouragement everyone! I think my goal this winter is to get everyone through without any casualties...but we haven't entered our darkest and coldest days yet...the worst may yet be coming. Kevin - yeah, I'd probably end up eating bread and water just so I'd have the budget to upkeep the plants. It's like a scene from the little shop of horrors. Carol - where in Ontario are you? are you experiencing the ridiculously warm weather too? We were lucky here to get a few sunny days last week but it's back to gray this week. MB, I have an ang leonis which has been doing nothing for two years - any ideas on how to get the little sucker growing? Mehitabel - I agree 100%...nothing feels better then some blooms on a cold gray day :)...See MoreCold and wet - today in the garden. Got any?
Comments (8)Lovely!! My snowdrops have come and gone already but the fritillarias and daffs are staring to make an appearance. And I just bought a new hellebore that looks like yours - a single white with heavy maroon markings. Had to go into town last night and that wind was bitter!! And the ferry crossing was as rocky as I have ever experienced - kind of entertaining to see folks staggering down the aisles cuz it was sure tough to stand upright!! Thankfully, the ride back later was much calmer. But not any warmer!!...See Moresherrygirl zone5 N il
