Electric hot water heater leaking from tank intermittently

Hi, new member here,

So I have an electric whirlpool water heater that’s at least 10 years old. One day after showering I happened to go to the basement and found the heater leaking seriously from the top. When I say top I don’t mean any pressure valves or the piping going into it, It was leaking out from around all the electrical connections from inside the unit and running down onto the floor. So I figured the tank rusted through and I’ve been pricing new units. Today I decided to turn the power back on to it and turn the water heater on and see what it does and I can’t get the dang thing to leak again. This makes no sense to me and I was looking for another opinion. I’d like to know what’s going on because I just don’t trust it anymore. Thanks for any help or experiences.
