Different wood floors?

we want to change the flooring in our kids room from carpeting to some kind of wood or laminate flooring (we are flexible as to the material as long as it looks good and it’s practical). The problem is that we wanted to take the same wood flooring in the hallways and extend it into the bedrooms but the company doesn’t make that color anymore. what options do I have? I don’t want it to look silly. Please help!!!

There is no reason why the bedroom floors can’t be finished on site to match the hall A bit of a hassle but if you have real wood in the hall I would not do laminate in the bedrooms they sure won’t match

Oh dear. The issue with factory finished products strikes again. Man-made finishes (wood, laminate, vinyl, etc) have a shelf life of 2 years (or so). I'm sorry but you just discovered what happens when things are done 'one at a time'.

You can bring in a wood (not laminate) that is the same species and WIDTH but a different COLOUR (please try to compliment the hallway) and then run it into the bedrooms. At least you will get SOME semblance of order.

But the IDEAL = remove the hallway product and refinish EVERYTHING in the same floor.

Personally if I were a home buyer, I would rather see carpet in bedrooms and then wood in the hallways...I'm a flooring snob who would wrinkle my nose at a poorly matched wood+wood install on the same level.

Hello Juan Ramirez , Without seeing photos I may be overly optimistic - why can't you cut a square or rectangle out of the carpet, pull up the padding, add a schluter strip/transtion strip/tile stop from Home Depot and throw a couple of tiles down over some quick-krete - also from Home Depot? Maybe its a hundred bucks worth of stuff & you keep the carpet? If you want to do the whole floor in the bedroom / vanity - laminate would be less expensive than engineered wood. Of course - they call everything, 'engineered wood flooring,' nowadays.... A real engineered wood floor would be fine - that means when you look at the flooring sample from the side you will clearly see (2) woods glued together - they expand/contract @ different rates making them less likely to get water damage and other science stuff. Hallett & Co gave you great advice in the other thread: Link to Other Thread For those who don't want to click the link, here's what he said You have traditional, site finished oak floors which are one of the most readily available floor types out there. If you don't want to sand and finish all the floors upstairs, install the floors in the bedroom 90 degrees to the hall so a slight change of color and or sheen will not be as noticeable.

Unless you can match them perfectly, then its best to pick a color that compliments them. Trying to match and missing, just doesnt look good.

I don't see a problem with having a different type of flooring in a bedroom, especially if it doesn't look like you tried to match. Kids' doors are shut a lot of the time anyway (at least at my house). A concrete look tile or concrete-look (or stone-look) vinyl would be so easy to keep clean. It's a kids' room, not an area that too many people will see.

But I agree that poorly-matched floor wouldn't look right.

I dislike mismatched wood floors as well. Either go for a contrasting wood floor in the bedrooms (same species but different stain that compliments) or just replace the hallway so it's all the same.
