I hate stacked units. (1) I'm short, which means controls for the top unit are always out of reach. (2) I prefer a top-loader (modern ones have no agitator in the middle!). (3) a front-loading washer needs to have its door left open between uses to prevent mold and other issues with the seal, which might be suboptimal in a busy traffic zone.

Your sketch is not to scale. If you rearranged to W/D/sink, with garage door opening into the sink, would there be room on the opposite wall for a bench?

Unfortunately not. Room is barely wide enough to open the dryer door.

How much space do you have on the other side of the room by the door into the house? Do you need to keep the door itself into the house or could it be an open doorway? Do you have room behind the door for a bench and hooks? I've never had stackables, so I can't comment on that, but if you put the washer and dryer together in the far corner and put the sink next to it, you can run the countertop the length of the room. All the extra countertop space is one benefit you don't get with stackables I've found that useful for setting things down upon entering, or just for folding, etc.

So decide what is more important to you - countertop space or a bench. You can use regular units to get a full wall of countertop and just put hooks on the opposite wall, or use stackables to give you room for a small bench with hooks above. You may also consider whether keeping the sink is necessary. If you have a half bath or kitchen nearby you may not need it.

We also have a tiny laundry, and so we stacked our washer/ dryer. I'm only 5'3 but have no trouble reaching my dryer controls and I must not mind bending to load the washer because I never complain about it. We had no choice with our space and it's been fine. I had side by side top loaders in last house and really prefer the stacked front loaders.

I love stacked units, I'm tall. That wall unit could work if you add a fold down shelf for folding?

Stacking is fine if you have no sort of back trouble.

I'm 5'1" and have a stacked full-size Electrolux pair in a laundry closet off the kitchen. I have a large island in the kitchen that I use for folding. Not an optimal arrangement, but I'm older than dirt and do a lot of laundry. This arrangement avoids trips to the basement which are hard for me. I have no problem reaching the controls. Occasionally, something will get stuck in the back part of the dryer. I just use the mop handle to move the item within reach. DH is tall and doesn't like bending over to get things out of the washer. I do most of the laundry, so this isn't a show-stopper.

I would not build a frame around the w/d. It makes maintenance harder and limits your options if you have to replace an appliance. I'd go for counter space with an open area below for shoes and a small ottoman that could be pulled out if one needed to sit. I'd put coat hooks on the wall between the doors to the house and garage.

I've been very happy with my stacked units! Worked so much better in my small space and I am also short but it has not been a problem. I have a small stool in there if needed. For our needs, we put everything on wheels so, for example, the hamper/hanging unit wheels out of the way for the folding/basket table to slide out when in use. I think there is a lot you can do with a small space by stacking.

Our stacked washer/dryer sit under a frame/board on the top that holds a cabinet. On one side is the wall, on the other are stacked double door units that I think were meant for bathroom, not kitchen, storage. The appliances look framed in but slide out completely for repairs.

I cannot reach the cabinet above without a step stool, so it holds decorative pieces I put out occasionally or that I can't yet bring myself to give or throw away. Detergent etc. are on a reachable shelf in the unit to the right.

I'd suggest that you take honest stock of the items you currently use for your laundry (wool dryer balls, anyone?, socks waiting for their one true partner?) and decide how and where you'll store them.

I like my stacked washer and dryer. They are in a very small space, and behind bifold doors. I didnt want my laundry room to look like a laundry room, as I live in a small home and need the space for multiple purposes.

When we remodeled our kitchen, we also remodeled the laundry room. We put in a stacked washer and dryer- I'm 5'3' and I have no problems. I love my front loading machines as well.

I’d put the stacked units where the washer is. Your water is already there. Put the bench on the wall on the left.

Can you post dimensions of the space? What you state in your original post seems like you will have a really small(useless) bench space.
