I use a different name on insta because I never post. I follow the posts of local decorators, etc. Still, people find me by my email address. Why do I get involved in these things?

You can also set up your Instagram account as private. That means you can decide who can and cannot see your content. I still wouldn't post anything that you wouldn't want to someday go public (if you know what I mean), but it at least for now controls who can follow you.

Ha! This reminds me of the time my DD was showing me a pic on my phone of a male teenage acquaintance doing something stupid that he had posted on his instagram. I accidentally hit the wrong thing and started following him. My DD was mortified that he would know her mom was following. I still get notifications from his account and my, now older, DD and I laugh about it.

My account is set up as pricklypearcactus describes. I have to approve who follows me. It's really funny the people who will send a follow request. Must be alot of men looking for women on instagram LOL!

So here’s a funny thing I just noticed. In the past two weeks I got a new cell phone, a new cell service provider, and a new iPad, which I set up as a brand new device, new Apple ID etc. Then I see this mystery follower, got an odd email from someone I don’t know asking me to call, giving their number, a text that looked like a wrong number (it was about work). But none of my friends have reported anything odd from me. Weird.

Some of those mystery followers are bots...

I have my account set as private and have to approve followers, also. I get a lot of requests from men and I block them all.

If this subscriber looks suspicious and triggers you, you can block him. Also, you can remove him from your subscribers. However, blocking the user will still be more effective in protecting you from his infiltration. I also used to dislike the notion that anyone was watching my life. But as of late, I got rid of my inner limitations and wanted to show everyone the best side of me. I even bought subscribers through MegaFamous. Now I have about five thousand of them. Of course, to keep people interested, I have to create content. So I post baking recipes and my travel photos with my husband. Now it's much harder for me to keep track of suspicious personalities, but they don't scare me anymore. If they start writing me nasty stuff, I delete it and add users to my blocklist.
