How to hang art above wainscot
We have started framing one special piece of art each year that my son has made. We have pre-K through first ready to hang. I would like to hang them on this long entry wall but I am not certain how high and what spacing.
The wainscot is 42 inches off the finished floor. I anticipate each year we will have different sized art and in different orientation. My thinking is that they should all be spaced the same height above the wainscot and same distance apart? Does that sound correct? 4 inches off the rail and 4 inches apart? Thank you!

4 years agoSince the space will keep changing as art is added, it's necessary to have a system that is flexible to accommodate the change. Plus all those items are too small for that wall when installed alone. You can purchase these picture ledges at a number of retail stores including IKEA, Target, Walmart etc.

Comments (6)If the headboard isn't overpowering and a statement in itself, I'd go ahead and put lightweight art above... even though I don't live in earthquake country, I'd be nervous about anything heavy up there. Agree with arcy, I wouldn't want to have anything so low as to be hitting my head on anything over the bed when sitting up in it. Aside from the fact it feels very COOL in a nice "warm" dining space, it is a bit large, and a slightly smaller threesome, or one larger and warmer piece? Would be a lot better. Comments (39)I think if you hang it raised (or rotate it), it will be too close to the ceiling. The masonry hook is one idea, but it doesn't have to be higher. Try the museum wax or clear pushpins or other suggestions to keep it on the shelf, then if it just seems to unstable, do the hook, but at same level. 4 years agoThank you Beverly! Do I put up two ledges? Will they look odd kind of empty? We aren’t really into filler art, hence why that wall is empty after three years in the house. How high above the wainscot?
Alternately I have a lot of other walls in the house where I can put them alone, would that be better? We have this nook where I hang his current art on a wire.

4 years agoI actually have that right off the front door. It’s meant to be a formal dining but we use it as a second living/train room. I’m sorry I’m sure that causes chest pain for most people, but we are really casual people. We ended up in a slightly fancy place with a mind toward eventual resale and due to walking proximity to school, parks, etc. I know the fake flowers are also a no-no but I have terrible asthma and allergies and I like these.
I have this wall off the staircase that I think will work for ledges, right?
