Narrow bed between fence & pool decking
Comments (14)I had the same problem and It was so challenging. It always looked unfinished and I felt like people would fall off of the edge of the deck. Plus our dog insisted it was a dog run which was kind of gross. We found a work around. We bought a fence screen from an online store that offers next day delivery (website to remain unnamed. :-) They come in different lengths, height and colours. (Forgive the mess. We were prepping the spot in front of the equipment to extend the concrete pad and address the gap) The fence screen we are fast an easy install and this fabric doesn't fade or rip. It allows air to flow through but keeps dirt from going through the fence. After I dug a trent for the trees, I ran the landscape fabric over stones that we placed along the bottom of the fenceto create a basin. then back filled with soil. Fence fabric https://www.amazon.ca/Windscreen4less-Privacy-Grommets-Warranty-Customized/dp/B001OJXVKW/ref=sr_1_7?crid=LGXTY2DJMA7U&keywords=fence%2Bscreen&qid=1652055342&sprefix=fence%2Bscreen%2Caps%2C121&sr=8-7&th=1 The chainlink acts like the retaining structure, the fence screen helped to keep everything on myside and the landscape fabric, wood and stone helped with drainage. We have a 20" drop from deck height so we didnt' have to dig down too far to plant cedars and we could fill up the gap with soil. To break up the green we had cedar privacy screens, strategically placed to be over drainage, and grounding wires for the pool. I plan to plant hydrangea bushes at the base of the cedar screens but my husband wants hicks yews (no maintenance required and all around greenery for those of use who have cold weather 8 months our of the year)....See MoreAluminum Deck Question
Comments (38)I am just finalizing a contract to have a Lock-Dry deck built. I got samples of it and the Arridek and felt that the Lock-Dry seemed to be a better product (and certainly has more color choices). The Lock-Dry units are thicker aluminum, more secure fit, and are powder coated to a more stringent standard (and it shows!). Both far exceed weight requirements for decking, but the test reports are a bit different so it is not a direct comparison. This will be about a 600SF deck over a walkout basement, so about 11 feet high with steps. The builder has a lot of deck experience and has worked with Arridek. We are doing Trex transcend railing, a Trex faschia, and wooden framing. Would love to have done the aluminum framing but $$$$$$. The framing definitenly different since the boards are at right angles to the house**. One of our beams will be gluelam to carry more weight with fewer beams. Will upload pictures when it is done. We went with the saddle brown. I like the Dakota woodgrain but felt the cost was not worth the difference in price for me. **you can run them parallel to the house but the wall of our house is 57 feet and the deck width will range from 6 to 14 feet....See MoreHELP! Front lawn has become the neighborhood dog park!
Comments (52)Rev.....I love your idea! The smell of that stuff stays where you put it for a long time. And, a dog just can't help themselves to not roll around in it. The downside is that it also smells for a good long ways. You have to weigh this factor in. I still don't understand why people can't let their dog poop in their own yard and then take the dog for a walk. The former neighbors used to have a dog. He would come out with the dog and take the dog to the col de sac and let him poop, then take him back in. No walk, just a poop on our shared ground. Why could he not let the dog poop in his own yard? It was just a matter of a few yards to cross the street to get to the col de sac. Children play there. There is a bench there and neighbors do use it. Why they thought it was their right to use it as the dog toilet is beyond my understanding. Yeah he picked it up. Most of it. Except for the wet and nasty stuff that clings to the ground and the grass, Then the kids come out to kick the soccer ball around and it is covered with nastiness from the dog poop. What gives dog owners this right? It really is no different from people pooping all around. Ever had to bathe a dog who rolled in something delightfully smelly? Been there and done that, plenty....See MoreResidential or Commercial Grade Aluminum Fence?
Comments (10)Hi Sam, We ordered commercial grade. I ended up calling the fencing company and the woman I spoke with said, with a dog, commercial grade would be a better choice. In addition, my contractor doesn't install residential grade as there are too many issues. We are still waiting on installation!! The supplies are in, we are just waiting for our lawn to dry up before the contractor installs. Hopefully we will have a fence in the next week. I can't remember the name of the fencing! I will find out and respond later. I do know it's manufactured in Flordia....See MoreRyanne Tomford
