Painting kitchen cabinets, two tone?
Comments (65)Well every seller and flipper anywhere near me paints cabinets white..:) or so it seems And sometimes makes no sense whatsoever, given architecture, style, other materials..irritating. Don't get me wrong..i would never pass on the house I love because of that..even if they would be completely wrong for the space (in my place they were completely wrong-color wise, style-wise, everything.. yet we still bought the house lol. well, eighty percent of interior finishes was wrong for the house so..) things like that -I don't see them as making or breaking the deal. Location, bones, layout, amount of rooms you need to accommodate your family-yes. Well price of course. As much as I loved several houses-they were too small, or were not in a neighborhood that'd work for us, or were simply too expensive So no, I wouldn't pass on a house because of the cabinets, whatever color they would be..and especially if they were right for the space:) I like grays but not cold grays for example. And I prefer warm whites to bright whites. Yet when it makes allover sense, it's easier to look past it, and make do, for a time being, or maybe for years even. And in some cases-you look past it even if it doesn't make any sense. But it's better if it does. It's rarely a question of one color..even though colors do have huge influence over us. it's a question of how everything comes together. Same as with everything. Take a face you like-many times, a nose could be better, and teeth could be straighter, and whatnot. Yet you don't look at it separately...you do of course, but you don't care because it's more than just the sum of elements. PS I read the funniest description in one listing recently. It went: "This house is classic and timeless, yet trendy and current". It looks like they've read all the blogosphere on the subject of design and decor, and decided to construct that sentence, so as not to miss anything...))))...See MorePROS, White Perimiter Cabinets With Plum Island Cabs? Comments (125)I'm new to this forum and love hearing about taking chances on color. As you said, you can always paint it after a few years if you don't like it. I've been leaning towards navy blue or teal green for our island. We're also incorporating a banquette into it. As it faces the family room, I'll be using the colors throughout our family room and kitchen so it will blend easily. I love the idea of plum with green and other fall colors -apricot, buttery yellow, deep red. It would look great together although I'd tend to do more neutral sofas, chairs and other pieces, bringing the color in through throw pillows, art work, your kitchen decor- using lit cabinets on top with the same punch of color showing. As for countertops, I think the wood that I've seen on here looks great with the plum and then you can use whatever you like on the surrounding cabinets. Personally, I'd stay away from the brass hardware and go with bronze. Brass is already "dated" according to the professional guidelines I've seen although, it's still a matter of preference. If you like it, use it. There's also black hardware depending on your other colors. I'm thinking that I wouldn't want to distract from the plum with any shiny hardware that would stand out too much. Have fun with it! Rules are meant to be broken when it comes to color otherwise, we'd be living with the basics only....See MoreGray cabinets with stained island
Comments (11)I actually ended up going with SW pewter on my cabinets. On the paint strip it appeared too cool, but samples painted in the kitchen showed it to be much better than my original plan of Repose. I was worried about mixing a cooler gray with the warmer wood tones, but I think because of the lighting— high ceilings and the entire back wall of my living area and kitchen are windows— everything pulled together well. I stained the island and beams in the room a darker color than the floors and used a dark, thin grout line to make the tile floor look more like wood than the sample shown above. Finished, the kitchen looks very similar to the Graystone picture submitted by Beth H. My advice is to paint samples in the room so you can see them in different lights throughout the day. Good luck with your choices!...See MoreNeed help with a SW version of a BM color :)
Comments (30)Unfortunately, after receiving samples from Samplize, BM Gray Owl is WAY too blue in our kitchen. DH didn't like BM Wrought Iron and thought it looked too black. This has been one of my inspiration kitchens and it use Gray Owl cabinets and walls with a BM Whale Gray island: DH liked the Whale Gray but I'm feeling that it should be just a tad darker so I'm going to order a sample of BM Trout Gray and see how it looks in the space as it appears just a bit darker on the fan deck. BM Trout Gray Others samples I purchased were SW Agreeable Gray, BM Apparition, and BM Nimbus but none of them seem quite right in my quest for a neutral warm gray without too much blue or too much yellow undertone. Any suggestions? I'm almost at the point of going to white cabinets but I swore off white after our last new kitchen :(...See MoreHome Interiors with Ease
