I grew up in Ann Arbor and believe I even know the house you're looking at! That looks like it's right next to the high school? If all is solid with the structure, I would not hesitate to make an offer on it. It's a wonderful area; if you have kids, do check into the schools in Saline to make sure they're what you want, and spend some time in the house during rush hours / school hours to gauge the traffic noise on Saline-A2 Road, to make sure it's not too much from the bedrooms etc. The great thing about no updates is that you don't have to undo bad work from the 70's, while retaining as much of the original structure as you like. The bad thing is that it's expensive to bring systems up to code. We just bought an old house in Maine and are spending quite a bit replacing the old knob&tube wiring (c. $12k) and ancient original boiler (c. $15k). But if you factor this into your offer, you will be good to go and have plenty of time to schedule the work before snow flies this fall. I grew up in a 1960's ranch but have lived in older houses my entire adult life: absolutely no comparison. As brickeyee says, we're sitting pretty while the cheaper materials on the newer homes are failing at a rapid rate. The best thing about old houses? Anything that can break can be repaired. This is not the case with McMansions and their scary vinyl windows, plastic doors, plastic trim, cheap drywall, hideous siding and manufactured flooring.

I have written about my Tradewind liner many times on here . It is wonderful. We have used it hard for 7 years. It is quiet and efficient and easy to clean . We have a 1400 cfm/54" wide system with the roof mounted blower. Sjerin has the unit also, after reading my reviews. and told me on another thread the other day how great it is. Our GC built the custom surround for the liner. He installed all duct work and the roof blower. It is wonderfully quiet and I only use it on low or med most of the time. We stir fry and deep fry a lot so I have tested it to the max for years. I remove the baffles weekly and clean them. They are always a mess :) A great sign. After all these years I have never cleaned one spot of grease off of my open shelves adjacent to the cooking area or off of the wood surround. No need to...it all goes on the baffles. I hope that you can find what will serve you well. Oh and no I do not have nor did I need make up air. We have 11 and 12 ft ceilings in an 1890 home so there is plenty of air. love all chicago pro sports plus IU & UCF college sports. i grew up going to chicago cubs and bears games w/ my dad and he went w/ his dad :-) from my teens till i was 30 (moved to orlando then) i also added in Bulls and Blackhawks games too plus my alma mater Indiana Univ (bobby knight days). now my DH goes to UCF and they are an emerging big college, right now ranked #3 in size. my DH is not a sports fan (he's a sports widow actually lol) and does not understand what the importance of sports is to UCF. aside from the players and all that, the sports programs attract more students from all over the country, draw more support from alumni, brings in national contracts for equipment and national exposure on TV, which feeds the whole thing. all of it equates to more $$ for the university and inturn helps support education for all. i'm sure there are plenty of educational programs that would be cut if sports didn't bring in $$$. my DH's college of Engineering gets ALOT of $$$$ from Lockheed, Boeing, Siemens etc...i'm sure departments like art, literature, education etc...get nothing from private donors. two yrs ago UCF opened a huge new stadium which employs several hundred people yr round. last yr they opened a new arena for basketball which also hosts tons of concerts and shows year round. they paid off the arena's building costs in the very first yr! the arena also employs several hundred more employees. the orlando magic are just about to open a new arena, one of the largest & most expensive ever built. my DH has 2 nieces who work for the magic, make very good $$ and i was shocked to find out they employ 3000 people. several thousand construction people have been working on the arena for 2 yrs now. when that is done the workers switch over to building an art and concert center for Orlando adjacent to the arena, that opens in 2013. the construction of these buildings is very far reaching into the community. i have friends in horticulture who have provided all the plants, flowers and palms to the arena site. part of the magic deal to get permission for this building involved them building 2 or 3 new community rec and education centers thru out the city, so that adds to the jobs, money and enrichment of the city. ~ liz

Nohting to compare. We built ours in the master bathroom 2 years ago with Thermasol as the generator. Takes 5 mins to heat up to start enjoying it and other 10 mins to 115 degrees. Use it very often and love it.
