Catch Up Pictures on a Rainy Day

There was torrential rain here last evening, overnight and most of the morning. So here are some pictures from the past three days that I haven't posted yet.

All American Chief - I kept waiting for a better clump, but I never got more than four blooms on any day so far.

Bela Lugosi

Unknown yellow double that popped up in the Bela Lugosi clump. I've never grown a yellow double like this, so I have no idea from whence it came.

Older seedling (Chance Encounter x Never Been Kissed) blooms ML

Freedom of Expression - Curt Hanson UF that I got last fall. It's blooming on very short scapes this time. I love the color and the form, and look forward to seeing it in future years.

Blue Eyed Butterfly

Purple Peace - a Lambertson that has overwintered in a pot for two winters - including Winter 2017 - our worst winter in 30 years. I need to get it out of the pot so it can increase.

Thanks Brad! Purple Peace does have wonderful colors.

Alex - Feathered Fingers is hardy for me. It made it through out worst winter (2017) in 30 years, but I don't know if it would be hardy for you. If you do get it, plant it in a sheltered space.

Purple Peace is a pretty one. I like the Freedom of Expression....so many times the first ones are short...Yumph was a really short one, but the rebloom scape is much taller so far. So you got a surprise yellow...how funny to have something like that happen. All American Chief and Bown's Ferry Queen of Hearts both look nice and Feathered Fingers is very pretty. A nice post of left over ones.

I like Purple Peace too. Along with Brown's Ferry and Feathered Fingers and Freedom of Expression. I thought I had lost Blue Eyed Butterfly last year midsummer. I was planning to get rid of it anyway, never many blooms and very short. Something recently popped up in its spot, about the size of proliferation. Seeing yours makes me want it again.

Ya Ya Nancy said it right, you just copy and paste the tag line into this box. Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I just have a city lot, my front bed is small and I cram a lot into it, the pots are pot to pot. The back yard has a big iris bed approx. 40' x 8' and a couple of other beds mixed with irises and daylilies, nothing spectacular. I am proud of my 3 bald cypress trees, they have light and airy leaves. I also have about 20 crepe myrtles which bloom in the summer or June. I just line my pots up everywhere in the back LOL I hope the rain stops today because I have company coming tomorrow from out of town and want it to look nice. Somehow soggy flowers don't look too appealing. Can't really complain about the rain though because we needed it so bad. Dot

Mary's Baby is one I hope never to be without. It's just such a good color. As your photo shows.....I'm seeing the name "Dragon So" above the dynamite yellow with maroon markings. Is that the right name? I like it.....Electric Mist is another pretty one....It's coincidental you should remark about the growing habit of Forestlake Ragamuffin (or lack thereof). I have a different daylily that went gang busters the first two years I had it and now it's just limping along. I wonder sometimes if daylilies, like people, have different life spans and are just pooping out early? ......Anyway, lovely daylilies- all of them.......Maryl

Wow you have really made a difference. We've had rain for days--my dog is terrified of thunder so it's been a very difficult time at our house. She has so much fur--thundershirts don't help nor do the pills to calm her down. We can't plant anything since it is constantly raining. Hope that things clear up and that the hail in this area missed my yard today. My office is 15 minutes from home so I don't know what I will find tonight. Just love the weather forecast that called for intermittent showers and perhaps a bit of thunder today--we've been drenched and more is on the way this evening. How do those people keep their jobs?

You have such amazing seedlings, I especially like the 1st one, but all are so nice. Explosion is really different. I was at a site recently, can't remember what site, but they had 3 or 4 variegated blooms, very neat.

Purple Peace sounds promising, but I note that a parent is Blue Hippo, which as I recall didn't do well for you. Somewhere along the way, Lambertsons ceased to have northern potential.

Kay and Nancy - Purple Peace and Feathered Fingers are two of the newer Lambertsons that seem hardy here. I like the color of PP and white edge. It's certainly not the 38 registered inches here. Scapes are more like 26-27 inches tall. Feathered Fingers is close to being the right height.

Nancy - I've had Blue Eyed Butterfly for years, and at one point I had two large clumps, but I sold a clump and a half of it. The grubs have attacked the clump left the past two years, so mine is blooming on very short scapes. I've moved to an area that's been treated for grubs, and I hope I can rehabilitate it.

Mantis - I never grew Blue Hippo. But a lot of other Lambertsons have died here over the past seven years.

Feathered Fingers is pretty but I haven't recalled seeing it before. Blue Eyed Butterfly is a favorite here.

Julia - This is the third year for Feathered Fingers here. I got it as a single fan from Michael Grossman. Since it made it through the winter of 2017, I consider it pretty hardy.

I love that watermark on Browns Ferry Queen of Hearts. All American Chief and Purple Peace are my other two picks.
