I like the red door version, though I might try a rustier red.

I removed your rail, darkened your roof, and added cedar posts. If you do those, I think I'd do a cedar door.

Another vote here for red door -- or cedar door if you do the cedar posts.

You might whip up a version with a sort of periwinkle blue, which is great with yellow.

I like the darker roof but wouldn't go too dark. Grover's gray roof looks nice and a little lighter than your photos.

Agree with acm regarding the periwinkle. A blue door like the shade in this photo can also look nice with yellow siding IMO.

Cedar door! Yes! That is PERFECT! I want new garage doors too (though that will only happen if we get full asking price for our own house, because budget) and could do those in a cedar look as well. Thank you, Groveraxle!!!!

Actually, my favorite of these images is the grey shutters with the grey posts and the brownish red door. I may need to look into that. But it looks SO MUCH BETTER in ALL of those images.

Edited to add: I just realized part of what makes me love some of these iterations so much--you got rid of the shutters on the first floor. I never would have thought of that, but it is so much better!

Just for fun, Cedar/wood stained door & posts, off-white trim and shutters, like Simply White.

Double windows don't need shutters, so you can get rid of those right away. Check to see if the siding behind them has faded though. You may be forced to keep them unless you can repaint the siding.

The cedar and craftsman-style door and trim aren’t consistent with this house, as-is, which has more colonial elements than anything else. As for the shutters, if you’re intent on keeping them, replace them with ones that are appropriately sized for the windows, even if they’re non-functioning. (If you really like the craftsman look, then the shutters MUST go!) Alternatively, remove them altogether and beef up the window trim. And while I normally am not a fan of snap-in window grilles, I think they would give the windows some much-needed detail. Plus, depending on the configuration you choose, they’ll help to define whichever style you do decide to steer this house in, whether it be colonial or craftsman. In regards to color, with the pale yellow as the body color, a crisp white for the trim, black shutters should you choose to keep them and a charcoal roof, you’ll have infinite choices when it comes to door color, including the beautiful blues posted above and that gorgeous red jalarse used!

Yellow, blue and white is classic. I don't think the cedar goes with this house at all. Keep the trim white.

Noted that cedar does not go with the house. That's true. I fear I was trying to make it something it is not. The white stays. Though I'm still determined to take down the porch railing as it is unnecessary and restrictive (like as in: when you are on the porch, you feel like you are in jail. Which is not how one wants to feel on a porch!)

I now realize that the shutters need to stay because we cannot afford to replace all of the siding (that goes into tens of thousands of dollars) and we for sure cannot remove the shutters without replacing the siding, as the siding has been on for 25 years and it will look terrible if we remove the shutters.

I'm not certain replacing the shutters is in the budget either; I'm fine with just painting them for now.

I like the railings on the porch. They look very nice, and they prevent people from stepping off the edge. Its not a huge way to the ground, but, if someone stepped backwards, they could get a pretty nasty fall. It also keeps it safer for little kids You dont have a low enough porch to remove those railings.. I also like the shutters, and would just paint them. There is a picture above with a red door, that looks very nice on your house. I agree with the poster just below it that a rustier red would be even better.
