Need decorating help in my country dining room (pics)
Comments (76)I love the sconces that you all posted! My chandelier is actually bronzy looking and the link to pottery barn had the finish that matched it. One thing I should probably say about my photos is they really don't accurately reflect that my chairs really do pop against the walls. For some reason they do blend in in the photo. I am afraid if I put up beadboard, my jelly cabinet would just look kind of dingy in front of it. I do love beadboard. In fact we have it in our mudroom, kitchen, and three bathrooms ttodd- I love the Sturbridge Yankee Workshop which is where I purchased George and Martha. I am glad you like the rug. Today I was looking at it and I was thinking how I do love the graphic nature of it. I have taken my rooster pillows down and I think I want some pillows with some reddish ticking . Going to paint the ceiling to tone it down. I'm also looking for a lamp or two for the jelly cabinet. Once I get a new table, will the get things for the top of that. I so appreciate everybody's help with this room....See MoreNeed help decorating living & dining room
Comments (5)Make it attractive by adding accessories. Buy an area rug for under the dining table that has your wall color in the pallet. Then take the other colors and use them around the room. You can get inexpensive panels for the windows to warm up the room -- the dining area and the third window. Add the same two panels to the living room window. You might get something textured or a small print, using the colors from the rug. Move the dinning table so the middle of it is directly under the light. I would add one or two floor plants in the corner of the dining area. Lastly, you can find something with color to hang on the wall at TJ Max or Target. I think your furniture is fine for "staging" the house for sale....See MoreNeed help with open great room/dining room/kitchen decor
Comments (3)Don't have time to answer all of your questions but here's what I can suggest: 1) Lower the mantle on fireplace a little, as well as the painting in the niche. (See #2 here) Consider changing the mantle to something less rustic and paint in color A (see next suggestion) 2) Open spaces should be cohesive - which you can easily do with paint. Choose 2 colors or 2 shades of the same color and vary placement in different areas. (see #5 here) Consider adding a simple chair rail to the dining area. For example, with minimal effort, you could use color A below the chair rail in dining area, as the dominant color in window treatments fabric (I"d use draw drapes) , the back wall of niche, throw pillows, lamps ac, and maybe an area rug in living room, and in accessories (see #3 here) in living room and kitchen. I'd consider adding some of that color to kitchen also -- back of open cabinets for example, recovering bar stools and dining room chair seats to match drapery fabric and possibly slip covering one of the armchairs in the living room in a pattern that incorporates the wall colors with other colors in the space. You want to use coordinates, not just the same solid everywhere so look for different textures or patterns to add. Hope that helps. I've inclluded links to additional info about topics I mentioned that I think you'll find helpful. 3) see #2 - I'd choose lamps with either a base or shade to match color A. (See #7 here) 4) Add plants. If you aren't there often enough to take care of them, use artificial greenery....See Moreneed help decorating dining room
Comments (13)The first thing that came to mind for me was the light fixture. Do an online search for "modern pendants" and you will find something more MCM for the look you are after. Another great thing that is very mid century is to look for a brutalist sculpture for that darker accent wall. MCM hardware is often antique brass, so let that be your metal finish guide when looking for a sculpture. Or, you could find a couple of very large black and white framed prints for that wall. Then maybe go for color on the drapery--or a large colorful print--that would add a lot of spice and interest to the room....See Moresuzyq53
