bathtub not level

Our new bathtub has been installed along with tile around it. Glass shower doors were installed. The glass company did not bother mentioning to us that our tub is not level (because of unleveled floor) but instead installed the shower doors. Because the tub is not leveled, the doors sit above the tub near the faucet side 3/4 inch above the tub. (On the positive note, at least the tub is slanted toward drain.). The shower glass installer stated that he does not see that water will be splashed under the glass door. The general contractor agrees. What should I reasonably expect to be done here? You definitely can tell now that the tub is not level because of the way the glass doors sit upon the tub.

The tub and floors needed to be leveled or at least the options discussed with you prior to the install of the new tub. The floor should have been leveled for the new tub install period. The sliding doors have to installed level and square so on that part they are correct. I would not expect to see a 3/4" gap under my new doors between my new doors and my new tub. What else is new? Who did this work? Pictures?

3/4" is absolutely not acceptable and the reason they are saying it's fine is because the GC screwed up and figured you'd just accept it. I hope you didn't finish paying him/her

1) We haven't used the toilet yet (we have to crawl up on the snowy roof and uncap the vent pipe which had been sealed for pressure testing... and it was a snowstorm this weekend so DH did not do it!) so I can't comment too much on that yet. But it's a beautifully made and beeautiful-looking thing. 2) The tub's "leveling feet" (just little blocks of wood fiberglassed to the bottom of it) need to sit on subfloor or be shimmed to the correct height. Since our tub deck is about an inch or so taller than if the tub was sitting right on the subfloor, we needed to raise it up. Rather than shim the feet in place (since we had no access) or build the feet up on the tub itself, this was easier. We screwed blocks of wood to the floor itself, then used a hand plane to plane them down several times, placing the tub in the hole and checking its level each time, till we got it right. If the deck had been the same height as the tub rim, you'd just see cleared areas for the feet to rest, rather than the wood blocks, in the mortar bed.

The tub is not level, the deck is level all around. I had 3 trades people (all in bath reno) come take a look and they said that the tub should sit tight with the tub deck. Everyone agreed that not enough weight was in the tub when foam was injected. Tub was only half filled with water. The good news is that GC has now agreed to redo the tub install. This will be done in the new year. Until it is fixed properly, I will withhold final payment. Husband thinks the GC is more amicable because we still have more renos planned for next year and he wants to do them.

I dont know any way to fix it without tearing it all apart, and lifting the tub and supporting it so it is level. Is this a new bathroom? or an older one? If it is an older one, maybe make sure, that the tub is supported. If its on an upper floor, you could have a rotted floor underneath it and tub is sagging. Same for the main floor, but, you should be able to see all that from either a crawl space or a basement. In any case, all that old nasty caulk, needs to be scrapped out and the entire area cleaned, and new caulk put there. Use bathroom caulk, meant for around a tub. Since water has been getting in there though, you can expect that there is some damage behind and under that tub and probably in the wall.

Hello, so it just came to the point where I need to renew my appartment and I have absolutely no knowledge in this and I would kinda like to save some money by asking questions and do some things on my own, but that comes with tons of questions of course. So my appartment is very small (kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and 1 room). About 45sq meters all in total. The first things I would like to renew is bathroom. I heard that its a good idea if you are renewing to also do the water and electric cable renew. That would of course require a lot of breaking down walls and all that. Is that necesity or is it just a good thing in general to do? Second thing Id like to ask is about those waterproof stickers that I see a lot of people use through out their homes. Can those stickers be used in the shower or are they not that good for the direct exposure of water? I was thinking of removing the ceramic tiles because I will be switching the bath tub, level the wall and stick these on there. I know they are good behind the sing where they get wet a little bit, but are they also good for the shower? I have tons more questions but I dont want to overwhelm everyone, so will ask more later on. Thanks a lot for taking your time and for the help everyone.

If the tub didn't drain and you had this problem, you'd have a tear-out case; you probably don't. Take a shower and see if it leaks, please.

Yes, I want to be fair and do realize that mistakes happen. And, yes, I could take showers and see if water leaks out through gap of bottom of glass door and tub. And if no leakage happens, then pay GC and deal with the look of the difference between the gap in front of tub to back of tub? If no shower glass door had been installed, I would put up shower curtain. It is quite frustrating that glass installer did not tell me before first drill went into my brand new tub that your tub is not level.

If it doesn’t leak, a strip of solid surface matches to the tub as a kind of molding might work. Pictures would tell the story here. We are all flying blind.
