Time to remind you all just how small a hummingbird's nest and eggs are. This is a nest that was abandoned at my sisters home in Erie several years ago. That is my smaller than average hand.

Thanks Lars. I couldn't tell if it was part of the tree, some artificial lights or dreadlocks. I've never happened to see a palm tree flower.
Here's my coconut palm that I picked up at the Philadelphia Flower Show in February. It needs to be re-potted and I'm surprised that it's still alive in spite of sub-optimal living conditions.

7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoThat is an Australian palm (Archontophoenix cunninghamiana Bangalow Palm), and it makes flowers/berries that looks like strands of pearls/beads. It is not a date palm. Photo was taken at the L.A. County Arboretum.

I've not been able to grow coconut palm trees here because they require too much heat, and our summers are very mild. We might have the wrong kind of soil as well.

happy....yes. We sanded the beams, stained, wired the lights, installed the tongue n' groove cedar, while working on 3 tiers of scaffolding.
