Spacing for Hedge of Annabelle Hydrangea?
Comments (3)Being that close together might help them from flopping over when you get a heavy rain and they have big blooms on them. However, they spread by runners, so you could end up with plants in between them too. Deanna...See Morecan i move my annabelle now?
Comments (1)Annabelle is very shade tolerant but blooms best the more sun it gets. You can notice too that it can be planted in full sun in the northern areas of the country! The best time to transplant it is when it is dormant during fall and winter. If you simply cannot wait, dig up as much of the rootball as you can; manually check when the soil needs to be watered for the next 2-3 weeks (daily if your schedule permits). It will be most critical you maintain adequate moisture during the summer, not only because buds begin developing but because of the heat and transplant shock. Good luck, Luis...See Morehelp?! I have to transplant an Annabelle hydrangea
Comments (1)The plant will establish itself more quickly, and suffer less shock, if you take off the flowers. You can always dry them for the winter! I'd also cut the plant down to a manageable size, not only for your sake but also to keep it from wilting (you can use WiltPruf to help with this, too). Get as much of the root as possible and water it well until it is dormant. If your others are thriving in full sun, there's no reason this one won't. Comments (11)Hi Luis, thank you so much for the great advice! I think what I'm going to do is to move it to a LARGE pot instead. I'll follow your advice and try to get as much of the rootball as possible. I ended up purchasing three of the Silver Dollar hydrangeas and wanted to created a hedge with that variety. Annabelle is in the spot where one of the SD hydrangeas would go. What do you think are some good companion plants? I already have Autumn Joy sedum as an edger. I was going to use catmint, but I have catmint everywhere - it's my one of my top five perennials! LOL. I also was planning on having Panicum "Northwind" as a background plant. Another favorite of mine!...See Morenicholsworth Z6 Indianapolis
