Is There A Movie That Has A Garden Scene You Love?
Comments (43)I really like the scenery in UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN. Near the end of the movie there is a lovely scene where the writer hosts her adopted son's wedding reception in an Italian garden. Another great scene is when her best friend comments on the "spooky Italian trees". I also agree about the Lord of the Rings trillogy. I own the dvds and have been known to pop in the first movie just so that I can watch the Shire scenes. When I first saw the film I had fantasies of living in a house under a hill with a big round front door. Did you notice the pretty cottage garden in front of BagEnd? Now THAT is my idea of idealic. The Rivendale and Lothlorian scenes were also breathtaking. Two things that stand out in my mind is the silvery garden temple in the first Rivendale scene where Frodo is looking out from his balcony at the elven colony. Another scene is the Elven Queen's scrying well (she calls it the Mirror). I want that well! Mine of course would be surrounded by white roses. Comments (15)Veronica, I so hope your Aunt Margy's Rose will do well. It's always difficult to predict how they'll perform in an entirely different climate. Marlorena, Sophy's Rose to me has blooms that are almost unique in the Austin stable, but it may actually do much better in your conditions since it's grown very little for me. However, in its spot I don't mind the small size and it's usually a very good bloomer. Thank you, Pam and Jo. I think I'd have a major hissy fit if the rain doesn't materialize, since the local weather report has been 100% chance of rain, which I've never even seen before. Let it rain for all our sakes. jannike, I can't think of any reason why your SdlM plants shouldn't do splendidly. It has taken more than four years for mine to reach this size, but the flowers are equally admirable even before it gets that large. I added two more plants of it just recently from ARE and am hoping I'll have some kind of show by next year. I'd love to see how yours are doing next spring (pictures of course). Comments (24)Avedon, thanks for explaining about the naming of foxgloves. Your version makes more sense. Also I think we are all guilty of zone-pushing at least once. I have tried to grow roses that are only hardy down to zone 6 and regretted it because just to keep them alive I had to dig them up, tip them over and bury them in the ground like a corpse every winter, then resurrect them in the spring. Too much work and not worth it! Kay, the pretty pink rose in the last picture is an older of David Austins called Pretty Jessica...and she is indeed! mantis....the red rose you like is the same one you liked on my other thread, and one that is one of my most popular with visitors. It is just so RED that it cannot be ignored. It's the hardy Explorer rose 'Champlain' and is an excellent rose in all respects. The dark purple clematis on the arch is 'Perle d'Azur'. Last summer a mother robin made a nest in it and we watched the babies hatch and then fly away. Celeste...See MoreRoses and scenes from an English garden...
Comments (32)Wonderful pictures! I love English gardens though haven't visited in a few years. The perennial borders by GST are great. I've seen the ones at Mottisfont Abbey but have never been to Peckover House. The roses look lovely too....See MoreK S 7b Little Rock (formerly of Seattle)
