WHY can't they center the light over the island?
Comments (14)You're not being too picky. Don't leave their sides until they get it right. My husband and I went round and round about our dining room light. He thought it should be centered in the room. I designed the house and KNOW that the light was being installed over the table. No matter how much I explained and showed him on paper, he truly did not understand nor 'could see' in his mind's eye what the end result would be. He is just truly challenged visualizing some things. Lighting placement was one of the issues we struggled with building this house. And our electrician struggled with viusalization, too. It was horrid. How he could install lighting for a new home was beyond my patience. I had to stay with the electrician constantly. If I was not around, he would ask my DH a question, who never gave the correct answer....See MoreAnyone have an 'island light' over their dining table?
Comments (7)We had one over our table before our reno and I liked it a lot. When doing our kitchen I saw the same fixture in a magazine over a table---it looked good there too. We moved the fixture to our peninsula during the reno but I liked it better over the table. I plan to move it back there when we find something else to replace it with....See MoreHow much wattage do you have over your island?
Comments (5)We have 400 watts over a 6 1/2' island. I have to say these are up pretty high- I have been thinking about lowering them when the permanent island is in. Distance also means a great deal in how they illuminate the surface. I also have 100 Watts over the sink and about 360 in the chandelier over the eat-in table (seats 6). We have a historic home so we didn't do pot lights and don't have upper cabinets ( no under cabinet lighting) we do plan on doing led tape to illuminate the turret ceiling. Hope this helps!...See MoreHow do I light a off centered 7' island?
Comments (22)I agree with Beth and M.E. Light the island with 1 larger or 3 smaller clear or light toned pendants with a metal finish of your choice to match your theme or hardware, or hood, etc. Center it to the island, so that you can illuminate that work/visiting space. It looks like you can pull off 3, because your island looks larger. I am doing the same thing in my farmhouse kitchen right now. I have a very small island though, so will do only one medium sized pendant, and I have no real focal point in the kitchen, so I am going matte black with it, grey cabinets, white quartz countertops, and antique brass hardware. Good luck!...See MoreKimberly Moore
