Lighting Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Bathroom lighting, one light source

I live in Mexico where most of the construction is concrete/cinder block. I am renovating a 5 x 8 bathroom with only one light source (above the sink, on the wall). Not realistic to put anything on the ceiling, but I need to get some better light in here! Help?

iI have overhead lights above the sink but also have a lamp sitting on my vanity. Those are the only two lights I have in my bathroom. The lamp can be any height you want....mine is like a buffet lamp...tall and slim.

Use a fixture with clear glass shades and LED bulbs in the 3500-4000K range for a clear, white light.

I just ordered this one. I like the clean lines and it also will hold a 75 watt bulb so it will be a little brighter in there. I do have a recessed can light in the shower but this way it will give a bit more light. Someone on this board said that the round lights look like "boobs" and I just kept thinking of that everytime I looked at a round light so this one solves that mental image!! Thanks for all your suggestions!!

Bathroom vanity mirrors; one or two and lighting

Thanks all or your input! I'm going with two. Two is what I originally thought but then fell in love with the PB Astor Double-Width Mirror (a 58" X 40 beveled mirror framed with beveled mitered pieces of mirror). It's the only large mirror that fit the idea I had in my head for how I pictured the space with "one large mirror", but it seems to have been discontinued on PB and there is no duplicate to be found (I even went to a glass store to see if they could make it and they cannot). So two mirrors it is. My base tile that was on backorder (giving me more time to work through all this) gets installed tomorrow so now I just have to figure out/order the lights....either overhead, or sconces that would be squeezed in. There will only be 6" of space next to the right-side mirror so I'm leaning toward overhead.

It depends on the mirrors if you are asking about actual lighted mirrors. You usually don’t get an option for K and lumens they come all ready . I also think a ceiling light would be good for light balance .

ok that's good advice. Do you calculate that based on square footage of the room? And, if so, do you include the bath/tub shower area in that number? FYI - one thing that a consultant at a custom lighting store told me (which I've observed to be true from some of the lighted mirrors I've seen in person) is that those lumens given for the lighted mirrors don't ever seem accurate - they functionally seem much lower than what they give as a lumen measurement. (So, i.e., if you see something that says 500 lumens, for example, it's probably actually seems/feels much less than that.) So definitely shoot higher than you think.
