Window leak - how long to dry out?
Comments (3)Well, I still haven't found a definitive answer on the wood moisture %, but things are looking up, although the job has taken longer than planned. We tried the hose test as suggested and did not see any moisture intrusion. I hired someone to apply Siloxane to the brick exterior, as an added precaution. The sheetrock was removed, the studs and trim wood cleaned & treated, and a mildewcide applied everywhere. Moisture readings are down dramatically after several days of airing out then running the dehu at night. We're holding off on the new (MR) insulation and drywall until this Saturday because heavy rain is expected Friday and that should be a good test. If all goes well, I hope to have the wall repaired and painted by Monday morning....See MorePorchguy. Windows on Wash & others: Window wall leaks
Comments (6)Obviously it is difficult to evaluate the leak over the internet despite your detailed description. If all three doors are leaking, obviously there was a serious design defect in the door or a poor installation. If you are going to tackle this job yourself, eliminate those sources of leaks that you can identify and work backwards. If you are going to at minimum replace the glass, don't be afraid to throw a bit of silicon caulk at it in the meantime to eliminate that glazing leak from the pool. Definitely get rid of that damning effect because that will cause nearly every door to leak if you pool water up against it. Weather stripping will help but I suspect your leak is more involved than that. How do the door operate? Are they square and plumb across the jamb? What is the exterior around the doors?...See MoreWater mark on wall in cabinet under sink - but no leak. Outside wall.
Comments (3)In my mind the water is probably coming down from the window, collecting at the bottom plate and wicking back up on the inside wall....See MoreSuper Mysterious Window/Door Leaking During (ONLY Windy) Rain
Comments (10)Water flows downhill. It could be your upper windows are not adequately flashed. It's always useful to see what's happening when it is raining. Go out in the next windy downpour and look. We had mystery water leaking and crawling around under the porch in a downpour --- utterly miserable --- made everything blazingly clear. We fixed the problem and have had no more water in the basement. The fact that the door has an awning suggests flashing is an issue....See More- 4 years ago
