Help! I'm spongy and I can't get up!
Comments (12)Hello all! So sorry to have disappeared for so long! I thought I had set it up to email me when I got responses, but apparently I had not. Oops! Thank you all for your wonderful help! And especially, thank you Laura for your offer to help in person. I have some complicated and time-consuming issues going on right now, but eventually I would definitely welcome getting together with you! I've sent you a message with my email address. Yes, the caudex (such as it is) is indeed spongy. I like the idea about the mix shrinking, that makes a lot of sense to me. I think you're right about the gritty mix. I have no idea what my grandma potted it in, but it just looks like just your typical potting soil. And it looks like any nutrients have probably been used up by now. God knows when the last time this thing was repotted or fed/fertilized. I need to track down a more suitable pot, I think. With this one, I can't tell what kind of drainage I'm getting. When I get a chance to do that I will definitely follow SOP for root rot, should any exist, although I find it unlikely given the conditions in which it has been living. I did stop watering it daily. I've given it a small amount of water about once a week. Should I increase or decrease or is that acceptable? I feel dodgy about pruning it at this time because 1. it's not the right time for pruning, as I understand 2. it has so very few leaves, although I think this is not important with Adenium? The poor thing is in much the same condition it was at the time of my original post, though my husband thinks it looks even worse. And it has lost a few more leaves since then....See MoreI Can't Help it- More new ones
Comments (18)Hi Poochella, love the pics, just thought I'd attempt to answer your question regarding the meaning of Koinonia. Koinonia is an ancient Greek word, it's primary meaning is "fellowship, sharing in common, communion, a special time set aside for close fellowship/friendship. The first occurrence of Koinonia in the Scriptures is Acts 2:42, which refers to the devotion of the early church to the teaching of the Apostles, to fellowship, to breaking of bread and prayer." Christian fellowship (Koinonia) is a necessary facet of a believers life, for the expression of mutual love, encouragement and unity before God. cactuspolecat...See MoreA few more...I just can't help myself!
Comments (7)I freaked today when I went out and saw these big pink flowers on Sparishoop. I had many small own root roses for over the last 10 years and still trying to identify some so I can plant them. Last year Sparishoop got big enough to identify and I was so excited. It is one of my favorite roses and was so glad to find out I had another one and had just the right spot for it. I am so use to the peachy pink blooms with yellow stamens. Well this morning a bloom opened and it was all dark pink.. I was sure I had planted the wrong rose and felt horrible all day trying to figure out where I planted Sparrishoop... then I went on Garden Web and saw all the post of people dealing with their roses being different colors then they are normally because of the weather changes. Here in Marin CA we have had little water and it has been summer weather for 2 months. The days are nice and warm and it is chilly overnight.. Lady Banks bloomed in March.. Don Juan is full of bloom and I just pruned it again because it was putting out thin branches that were to heavy to hold up all the blooms.. Zephrine Droughin is covered with big pink blooms.. Now we have to worry about how we are going to keep these things watered through the summer.. I love those water beads and refresh them every year to keep down the need for watering.. Now I'm not sure who is going to pull them out first, the deer or the water company....See Morei'm extremely annoyed with cabinet maker
Comments (28)thanks for all the feedback. i'm thinking EXACTLY as gobruno suggests in that he is not at all used to having so much input from a homeowner. this was the case when we did our first house. i remember making an appointment to interview a kitchen designer and he asked the dimensions of the kitchen. when he arrived he had plans all drawn up and ready to go. i was perplexed to say the least. he spec'd a suite of kitchen aid appliances and was going to stain the wood maple. when i told him *I* was going to select the appliances and the wood species/stain/paint he looked at me and said, "ohhhhh... you're one of the FANCY people!" dh will never let me forget that. i did get an email back from cabinet maker today explaining WHY he hadn't followed the drawings exactly (he thought i would lose counter space with so many uppers being pulled down to the counter, etc...) but i assured him i KNOW what i want and need. he'll re draw and frankly he can revise until he's blue in the face. i'll see how he does but in the meantime i have some contacts i'll look into when we get back home. the guys are roofing this week and it will take a couple of weeks so we have the luxury of time. i also have very detailed drawings of exactly what i want which will make it very easy to come up with close estimates. i'll keep you posted. thanks again for all your wisdom, suggestions and patience. i'm making notes of all the vendors mentioned and will be sure to give them a call....See Moreeld6161
