Comments (5)Mar cia, I am familiar with Carilion. When we were shopping, we spent quite some time in different models at Carilion. If we would have gone in a subdivision, it would have definetely been Carilion. Beautiful place and I love the concept. What a brilliant idea.....develop a neighborhood that encourages community living! You're going to love living there I'm sure. The location is also perfect for everything that we love to do. It's out of the hussle and bussle, but close enough to not be a problem. Our property is actually about 6 miles north of Carillion. In my mind, the Carilion concept lends itself more towards a wood screen porch. The whole architectural direction is a throwback, and they didn't have aluminum porches in that era. If it were me, I'd go wood and stain it with a solid stain to go with the house colors. We're staining ours, but may use a transluscent stain to lend a more rustic feel. So when do you move down?...See MoreWhat to do with the house wall part of our screened porch?
Comments (3)Strip the shingles and do beadboard all the way from top to bottom - bet the maintenance would be much easier as well and it would all tie in as if the wainscoating was an extension of the large wall....See MoreRe: What can I do with my new house, Exterior, etc. X-Post
Comments (10)Change out you siding with hardi board. Add a porch roof like the pic.posted that partically follows the roof line to camo. the fact that the roof is wider on one side. Starting at the new porch roof edge add a wide trim board that goes across to the other wall., where the main roof meets the side wall and use hardi shingles above in a different color than the body of the house. Consider nicer window upstairs. I cann,t see the total slope of your yard put it looks like you have enough slope to put in a rock retaining wall. Add a few semi large focal rocks above and some low growing evergreens and a nice stone walk way and multch . Add something like river rock and easy care plants down in front of the rock retaining wall and you probly have the nicest house on your block and it would all be easy upkeep if you use the right plants and multch. If your able to do it your self all that should be less than 3000. We did alot of the same stuff with ours this last year and consider it a learning exp. as well as sweat eguity....See MoreFront porch screen door, should I paint it?
Comments (11)I love your porch!! I have an ugly storm door but want to run to home depot to get that door. I just changed my screens out for glass. It's getting cold, and it allows me to keep the inside door open and let the sun shine in. Is there a glass option? For what it's worth, and I have a similar style, I would pick either the wood or the deep purple. I thought white or red but I think the door is washed out in the pics....See MoreLaura Jasinsky
