We can't find a quality sofa anywhere--help!
Comments (27)Hi Manbike and other experts, I just bought an Elite full top-grain, aniline plus leather sofa that is made in their California plant. They use tempered steel sinuous springs for both the back and seating suspension. From their site... Depending on the design of an individual style, our frames are made of responsibly forested Pacific Northwest alder hardwood or of Forest Stewardship Council (FCS) certified hardwood plywood. The hardwood plywood frames we produce also meet the strict standards of the California Air Resources Board (CARB). We create the frames in our own mill and reinforce our fames to ensure proper tailoring of the selected covering. And, while others may not use corner blocks at all, we use many in each sofa to enhance its strength. I do not have it yet. Most of the better sofas like HM are out of my price range. I sort of got warn down on my research and took the plunge. I did read a few bad reviews but apparently they have a cheaper side line sold at Macys and a few other stores that is made in China. I'm a bit nervous as I did not try it out in person. Also, if plywood is bad what do they mean by hardwood plywood? Does that mean crap? The choices are so limited around me so I ordered from a dealer I have used in the past. Do you know anything about Elite quality? I have read that not all sinuous springs are bad and that some can be very good. I should add that I did write the factory and ask if my sofas had any China on it, they wrote back and said no, it is made in the California plant. Now granted in the world of furniture I am not making a huge investment. It is however a big investment to me in my world. I bought a four seat Aero sofa and a three seat Aero sofa, both in the top grain leather for a total of $4800. IâÂÂm just hoping that IâÂÂm getting a good mid to mid high quality and not over paying for a poor quality. Trying to get the best bang for your buck in a mid to mid high range is incredibly hard. Not everyone can spring for a HM. With H&M you know what you are getting. Not so much with other brands these days, even brands that formally had a good reputation. Comments (66)I read the reviews before our purchase that we made in 02/21. In the showroom the sofa was extremely comfortable, sat exactly how I needed it to sit for me. I'm 6'1", 225 lbs, 66 with a history of lower lumbar issues. It was delivered and was wonderful - for about a month. It sank at least two inches. Seriously, so much that when I used the sofa it began to increase my back pain and then began to cause difficulty getting up from the sofa because the sunken portion places me in a position where my pelvis is lower than my knees. I finally made a claim with our furniture company - which has been great to deal with - and they sent someone to look at it 06/21. Yes, there's a definite issue the repair man said, and yes, maybe it's just a bad piece of foam. BTW, both reclining ends did this. So new inserts were ordered and their repair man brought them and put them in on a Tuesday. Before the next Tuesday rolled around, the sinking feeling has returned and is worsening. There's definitely something not right with the quality of the foam used here, or there's something wrong with the platform that supports the foam. Everything else seems to be quality and is to be appreciated, but honestly, what good is reclining 'comfort' furniture if that comfort doesn't last more than a month or even less? With that said, I know there's nothing better out there. Seriously. I think folks just need to understand this isn't going to hold it's comfort the same way it does when you try it out in the showroom....See MoreHigh quality, long lasting USA made sofas for a family room?
Comments (26)I don't have any experience with the brands you mentioned, but we are thrilled with the quality and durability of our Stickley sofas. We have the Prairie Settle sofa and love seat in leather (with exposed wood frame), but they have many fabric options as well. We have cats, and it's great not to have to worry about them clawing the fabric like they did with our previous sofas. All of our Stickley pieces have stood up amazingly to kids, pets, and daily heavy use. They are made in America and while they're not cheap, I'm confident they will outlive us so we will never have to replace them. We have had them for about 13 years and they look as good as new. My husband wipes them down with leather conditioner about every other month and there is a slight patina on the leather where we sit on them, but it doesn't detract from the look at all. The wood is so hard it doesn't get dented and scratched from things banging into it....See MoreQuality sofa or sectional for $3k - with some specific needs, help!
Comments (5)IMO a good quality 3 seaer sofa and a nice recliner for the 300 lb friend since no matter what you get where he sits will always wear out first and there are recliners made for heavier users. I would look a good leather for the 2 pieces not fake not only leather on the part that touches you but cow hide and all over the piece. It will wear great put a towel where the dog likes to sit dog sweat is hard on even leather....See Morewhoanelly
