Potted fruit trees: quality money can't buy!!
Comments (20)frank: Cherries absorb water thru the skin of the fruit. That is the primary reason for cracked fruit. I haven't really tried to limit water in pots for sweet cherries. But it may be limited whether I'm trying or not. All my cherries were as sweet as they are likely to get potted or in-ground this year. Quite a few had brix above 35% as the fruit dehydrated late in the harvest season. My outdoor cherries have been too water stressed resulting in very high brix, small fruit, and off flavor. The fruit outdoors is half the size of greenhouse fruit. So this stress thing can easily go too far. agility mom: Are you sure about a greenhouse in Z9 AZ? That sounds like very hot summers. We have been having very hot weather here for my location but I'm at 4500 ft so 100F is near peak not 120F like low elev in AZ. You could probably do greenhouse fruit there with 40-50% shade cloth but I'd think you are on the razors edge. Why not do it outdoors? Too much monsoon rain? They are growing lots of fruit outdoors in N Las Vegas NV. Colder winters than you but about the same in summer. Dave Wilson used to have videos of the N Vegas operation....See MoreLa-z-boy recliner sofa quality?
Comments (66)We bought People Loungers in 2001 and decided in December of 2020 it was finally time to replace them. They were still holding up pretty well considering their age but became worn in spots on the foot rest my husband uses and the spot he sat in eventually broke so bad he didn’t see the point of fixing it. I looked into getting PL again but they weren’t being sold anymore so after many hours of looking at furniture stores and online I decided on La-Z-Boy. I’d read about it’s declined quality but hoped for the best because it was hard to find reclining sofa/loveseat that was manual, not a sectional and in a fabric/style I liked. I spent many hours carefully deciding and I made a choice that I was excited and confident about. They arrived in late January 2021 looking just as gorgeous as I had hoped! Then I started moving them into position in my living room and immediately noticed how much my hand sunk in while leaning/pushing on the headrest - very large foam that was not dense at all. The seats were the same. You just sink in. There’s no inkling of firmness. As my husband used his spot, I noticed pilling on the fabric and could see how loose it was looking. This was after 3 months. I spent so much time choosing everything and loved my choices so much - I knew dealing with it getting “repaired” or whatever they would’ve possibly done (if they even would) would be a nightmare and we also didn’t want to be without furniture - we decided to just keep it for as long as we could and figured we would have to replace it a lot earlier than we thought. A year later, the most used spots are very saggy and extremely pilled. At the time of delivery, we immediately got rid of the old, broken PL loveseat and planned on trashing the old PL couch the following week. But after a week decided to keep the old couch because of the extra seating it provided and the low quality of the new furniture (I figured if we could still use it some, it would save the new furniture some). I considered buying another LB sofa to match but could not spend that kind of money on such terrible quality. So almost exactly a year later, my old PL couch is the one I always sit on so that it “saves” the new furniture (and it’s quality remains the same - besides the one spot that’s a little broken inside and is “rigged” to function , the rest of it looks pretty good - the cushions are firm, not sagging, the fabric is not stretched or pilled). With the new furniture - my husbands spot looks terrible. The other spots are slightly saggy, slightly pilled and slightly stretched but they don’t get used more than an hour a day. Spent $2,700 on a manual reclining sofa and loveseat that will need to be replaced in a couple of years. So sad because it’s such a waste of money and it will just end up in a landfill. And like another person asked…”If not La-Z-Boy, then what???” I would love to know whose quality matches that of People Lounger in 2001 and La-Z-Boy years and years ago. Sorry so long!...See MoreI'm too overwhelmed. I just want a quality couch.
Comments (2)It looks like the main criteria in a new leather sofa chaise you are looking for are: Sofa with chaise True 8- way hand tied construction Solid Hardwood frame Down feathers Dimensions that fit your space Real top grain cowhide leather Two manufactures come to mind right away as I read your post for American made and one for imported like RH. For American made I would look at Leathercraft or McKinley Leather. Both are made in North Carolina and both will do any custom work you need. Palatial Furniture would be a source for an Imported frame. They also meet all your criteria but instead of a 4-6 week delivery time you will be waiting about 3 months. Palatial will price the lowest because it is imported. There are many other lines out there that have some of your criteria, but not all. The three I have mentioned have all the things you are looking for....See MoreHelp going crazy - can't afford to buy in the neighborhood we already.
Comments (40)Thank you for the suggestions. To answer the questions asked - we wouldn't need any additional cars as we already have two. Anywhere we move would still be within public transportation distance of the city as that is important to me. However it would be longer and probably on a commuter train with less frequency rather than a bus as I have now. About the slightly smaller home - any homes that are around even the ones that are smaller than ours are atleast $500k more so I am in the same place where I wonder what the value is in moving (which was my original question) The architect I had mentioned came by today and had some great suggestions that we could use to make the area we already have way more functional for us as a family. I am thinking about doing those changes (which she said would cost about ($30K) which involve breaking down a wall and adding a couple more windows and one additional door. The windows and door would require condo approval but everything else should be relatively easy to do! She did mention that it would be difficult to add another bedroom to the upstairs as there is value in keeping that big room as it is for now without dividing it up!...See Moretibbrix
