I heard a talk from a doctor who told his story of growing up with a father suffering from untreated mental illness...his father had PTSD...he was part of the crew assigned to gather up and identify the bodies of the fallen after D-Day. The ramifications of a battle such as that reach so far.

Nothing from D day but thanks for all the brave men and women who served. Several in my family.

I had 4 uncles involved in WWII, 2 on each parent's side. And 2 lost their lives from both sides. My mom's brother was wounded and lost his eye. A brother of my dad was in the Bataan Death March and almost didn't make it. None of them would talk about it.

I only have one uncle's picture and information. He was part of the Parachute Infantry and was shot on D-Day. (DOW means Died of Wounds.) He was so young, only 20.

Your uncle was two months younger than my father - everyone it seems was so young during that war encounter. My father was wounded and got a purple heart, and he did tell stories endlessly about his experiences. I really think that toward the end of his life (in 2012) he suffered from PTSD. It may have affected him earlier in life, but it was especially evident when he was in his 80s.

So sad that all of this happened.
