Comments (13)Kathleen, My "stoned" candle holder?? Only a child of the 60s would come up with that as casually as you did! Frou, The red pot is an enameled pot. Just what kind of metal is under the enamel is a mystery to me, but it's not cast iron. The pot's much too light for that. It's a Dansk product and the line of pots and lasagna dishes were very popular when I got married in 1970 (or at least they were very popular on the West Coast). The lid can be used as a trivet when the pot is fresh out of the oven. Karen, glad you like our table and the use of our candlesticks. Taper candles will look fine when you use both of your candlesticks together. But if you're just not a taper person, then this is an easy way to go. I've still got mine on display at the end of my peninsula in the kitchen and the tulip glass doesn't show any signs of loosening. I didn't use very much glue either, as I didn't know if I was going to like it or not. I'm thinking it may even be able to take a larger chimney if I use that GE stuff you've recommended. That might be too permanent for me though, as I can see myself wanting to use a taper once in a while. Thanks so much for sending it to me. I LOVE IT!...See MoreFH dining room table finally here, lots of pics
Comments (50)Morning, Parma! Yeah, your table isn't frou frou in the least.. but it is gorgeous and really has a presence. It is totally jeans and pearls.. really really NICE jeans and pearls. I want to see the edge detail in all sorts of lighting. I was thinking that I bet it looks great in low light/candlelight.. almost like a romantic spanish table. You are hitting all the romance languages/countries! (I see what you have on your mind! haha) I could totally make the table work but I am not up for buying new chairs right now (shopping for or paying for)... plus in my mind it is YOUR table. :) Price-wise it is in the same ballpark with others that have caught my eye... but it far exceeds the quality and drama of the others. I am all over the place with my likes-- imagine that! LOL I want something that looks "fresh" and "interesting" and that has taken me in all sorts of directions. I'll post pictures and where I am thinking in a few weeks. It was a project I had planned for next year but I keep feeling the pull now. I AM still planning on the HW buffet! I firmed up my furniture selections last night-- in fact, I have written a long post with what I have selected and where I am still undecided but.. I was embarrassed to post it as I've dragged this out so long LOL. I had a few concerns about the buffet-- first the height, but my designer chick set up a section on their showroom floor for me. We put a painting over a chest the same height and set up a chair at my viewing distance. I think it is fine-- my other concerns are the fact that the drawers are velvet lined for silverware and just the cost. Will it look too out of place to have an expensive dining piece for the tv? I mean, I know I like the style and look of it for the LR but will it look too frivolous or silly to have my electronics on a NICE piece? I am going with "no" for the moment haha (but still scouring craigs list and ebay). I am in the process of selecting a finish for it. Wow, HW has SO many finishes and some of them are just so cool. I narrowed the 100+ options down to like 10 or 12 (all premium, of course, darn it). I will go in next time with a paint sample since many of the finishes are in the ivory, silver, green, blue range. The black is still in the running too-- but I am definitely leaning towards a more distressed and unusual finish....See MoreSaarinen repro tulip table: Durability of surface and base stability?
Comments (12)Forgot to mention that another reason we went with the wood table was because the height was a bit less than the fiberglass - the chairs that we ordered were lower than the ones being replaced. We, too, considered the faux marble, but went with white since we have a faux marble floor and a marble-y looking quartz countertop. No issues with Lexmod, they even matched a lower price we saw elsewhere. One thing to keep in mind however is that these will be shipped out freight which complicates delivery. It took about 2 weeks to receive after they were shipped since the delivery isn't a direct route. The truck first goes to a central warehouse that serves your location, then delivers on a schedule that might be only once or twice a week to your area. The table is packed in 2 boxes, both of which will be left outside. Assembly is straightforward but due to the weight of the table top you will need 2 people to do this. All said, I love this table!...See MoreCan a Roomba navigate a tulip table and chair base?
Comments (5)The only problem I'm having with mine is my first floor is 2,200 SF of open space excluding office and bathroom, so sometimes it would run out of juice and it will get stuck in the middle. I guess it miscalculates the charge of what's left of it and it cannot make it back to its home base to charge....See MoreJanice J. Lewis
