does this estimate sound reasonable for new garden?
Comments (7)Mindyw3, some crops like green/yellow beans will net you more on a purely square foot method as they can be grown 2 rows of beans in a 2 ft. wide row. Lettuce and spinach we grow 3 rows in a 3 foot wide row. same with green onions, radish, etc. Beets we grow 2 rows per 2 foot wide row, also. But ! other crops like Cukes and pickles, melons will net you a lot less on a square foot basis. Sweet corn being the most unprofitable for the space it consumes. Sweet jumbo onions are quite profitable as are new red potatos. Snow peas are easy to grow and also give a decent return but are labor intensive as with green beans. It should average out on your 1/4 acre of growing area to around .25 to .75 cents of net profit per square foot. Get as much free organic matter as you can(leaves, grass clippings, etc.) Mark...See MoreDoes this sound right? Carrier Infiinity ICS without zoning?
Comments (2)We had Honeywell programmable thermostats installed upstairs and downstairs in 2001. And we're not updating our AC, which is Carrier, also replaced in 2001. I think I'm with you - seems silly not to install the zoning. As I recall, we needed the zoning at the time. Maybe with the new system we won't, but I don't know. I recall that the upstairs bedroom gets very hot during the day in the summer, even with ac - low ceilings and close to the roof, I guess....See MoreHood venting and sink frustration - does this sound right?
Comments (17)You guys are fabulous - I got so stuck into the thinking that it had to be in the wall, I missed these other venting options. I just realized there is a very good chance that the wall ends up being one that goes up right though the master bedroom closet wall on the second story. That's a possibility! But then it's scary cutting the roof to ensure no leaks! Our new cabinets will be staggered with most of it going to the ceiling. It could potentially be worked around behind moulding - it would just have to go through the hutch somehow and the mullion doors may complicate it, but I am leaning toward custom since their prices are coming in exactly the same as semi-custom, and that could then be built in somehow - any idea how to hide the ducting through the hutch? Here is the plan from the bid that comes the closest to what I am envisioning:...See MoreDoes this sound right? $$ for custom cornices
Comments (18)Thank you all for your responses, I really appreciate your expertise and advice. I just had no starting point at all regarding what a reasonable price would be, and your responses help a lot. Justgotabeme, I especially appreciate the cost breakdown you provided. annz & mitchdesj, thanks for the logic behind the installation cost. When she said $200 I couldn't fathom how it could possibly be that much, but you're right, two people, travel time, installation and their responsibility for any problems that may arise -- it seems more logical now. Newdawn, I do wish I were handy, but my DIY skills only extend to IKEA furniture assembly and hanging pictures, lol. Palimpsest, I am in Connecticut, so prices tend to be high in this area, I just wasn't prepared for them to be quite so high. Sable, I love Country Curtains and have used them for everything else in my house. I feel much more confident going forward with this project now that I have some good info, and I will be getting additional quotes. I've lived without window treatments in the family room since it was re-done last April, so a few more months won't matter if I can make a confident choice. Thank you all again!!!...See MoreMary Dragowski
