That doesn't look quite right. Maybe it's a floor model? Or a returned unit?

I know that manufacturers frequently test their appliances before selling them. But I have never heard of them using anything other than just water for that.

I really don't know what to think. These models are so new that I had to wait for them to come in stock. Do you think it's possible Whirlpool shipped a used machine to the retailer?

The strange thing is that the insides of the tanks were totally clean. If they had been used, and someone cleaned the inside that well, I can't imagine they would have not bothered to clean the nozzles on the outside too. Especially if they were trying to make the parts look new.

Is there any explanation for this other than the machine has been used?

Prior to discovering this, I did run one cycle with just water (nothing in the tanks) as instructed by the manual. Is it possible something transferred from the machine to the tank nozzle?

On a side note, I have some very un-glowing thoughts about these machines and ESPECIALLY Whirlpool service. I hope I never have a serious problem because Whirlpool is going to make the experience painful. I love the technology but I'm already thinking about returning these for another brand,just because of the poor support so far.

No it is NOT possible that Whirlpool shipped a used machine . Think about it came in a box, they would have to shipped it to the factory for that too happen. Any damaged or open boxed units that were refused by customer generally are put in a container and bought by scratch and dent outlets. Manufacturers do test some washers and dishwashers before shipping. That's why you may see water in some of these units They don't use anything just run water thru the unit.

But this residue on the tank nozzles looks like it could be from detergent or fabric softener. Water alone wouldn't do this. One has yellow residue and the other has white residue, they aren't even the same.

Has anyone else noticed this on a brand new machine?

There's gotta be some sort of explanation, I'm just trying to figure out what it is. I think anyone would be a little bothered to see this on a brand new machine.

I purchased a new Whirlpool washer a month ago and mine was the same way. I don't think it was used, just protection of the plastic parts in packaging and shipping.

Maybe your machines were tested before leaving the factory?

I've seen this same residue on these new Whirlpools at the store. I believe that is a lubricant/grease from the factory.

Curious why don't you like your new machines?

The yellow almost looks like someone put lubricant on their finger, probably rubbed it on plastic bolt and then used their dirty fingers to tighten.

Qualitt control has gone downhill on a lot of appliances. People don’t want to see price hikes. Skilled labor and labor that cares about the product costs money and many companies simply want drones who couldn’t care less about the quality since their paycheck is barely enough to buy peanuts.
