rug positioning/choice

I currently have this rug in this small room (11.5’x7.5’). During process of some renovations, one end got a little dirty and I can’t get it clean (and rug wasn’t $$ so not really worth sending out to be cleaned). SO, I positioned the dirty end under the sofa. Does it look ridiculous? I had it parallel to sofa before.
I know the sofa’s feet aren’t on the rug, but my kids use this room and often slide the sofa up and back so feet on floor is easy.
That said, I do want it to look good. Should I just scrap this rug? Sofa/pillow will not be replaced.
I was considering just going bold and getting the last rug pic I attached!

My husband and my kids can’t even tell it’s dirty- according to them. If set parallel, it’s the end towards the wall- not dramatic but something I see. Maybe I’ll try to clean and leave it as is for now.

It looks better parallel, but are you sure this is the right layout for your room? Lots of items on the floor in that room. Nice rug

It’s the only way it really works functionally. The sofa is facing a wall mounted TV. Behind the sofa is a closet with sliding doors. We created a nook essentially. The area from which I’m taking the pic is flanked by bookcases, not a true wall. We’ve tried sofa on long wall but then the kids have to turn their bodies to watch/play and it’s only comfy for one of them.

The rug should be placed based on furniture layout, which should also take into consideration the size/shape of the room. I've never worried about the fringe ... unless its design creates some unusual trip hazard.

You’ve picked the correct walls to align it to, but you might be able to get a better result if you purchased a larger, room-size rug (cut to fit the irregularly shaped floor) either to be used by itself or as a base layer underneath that one. If you did that id suggest using a natural-colored, natural-fiber rug such as jute, sisal or seagrass. Can you post pics showing the entire space? What is this room used for?

well sounds like you have your colors set then.. you’d asked for color suggestions, but if looking to keep it all neutral then I suppose you will stay in the cream/gray/gold/black scheme that you currently have going. In that case I would definitely work on adding texture to the room with pillows, drapes etc. Not sure if these are more what you had in mind for rugs, but here are a couple neural options I came across

I'd lose the sofa for two inexpensive comfy chairs and ottomans. And get a bigger rug.Or put the sofa on the back wall and add a big comfy bean bag chair. And be able to get to the closet.

I’d love to but it’s pull out sofa so this space doubles as a guest room too (or if one of the kids has a sleepover, etc). The wall will be covered with a gallery of sports memorabilia. I just had the pillow cover made and the wall was painted just 6 months ago. I’d like to keep in this color family - though the zebra rug in bigger size would be interesting. I have pops of animal print throughout the other rooms. This is NYC apt living...

I love the rug but I do think the position is wrong. I would just buy the same rug again or pay to have it cleaned.
