How to position a rug with fringe?

With a 22' x 20' Great Room and an 11' x 15' rug with fringe how should I position the rug in the room?

One end of the room is a fireplace and the opposite end is entry to the kitchen at the island. One side is an open hallway that leads to the Dining Room the other side leads to a screened porch. What should be considered, i.e. fringe at the area with less traffic to avoid wear on the fringe, longer size of the rug at the longer side of the room, other suggestions?

You can't really answer this question correctly without a picture or floor plan but I'd center the rug on the fireplace. That seems like a safe bet

The rug should be placed based on furniture layout, which should also take into consideration the size/shape of the room. I've never worried about the fringe ... unless its design creates some unusual trip hazard.

I wonder if a spray acrylic (or something of the sort) could be put on it (with something under it while sprayed of course). Maybe that would keep it from moving around so easily. Spray starch maybe? I don't have rugs with tassels, so haven't tried it myself.

Hard to say without being there, but I wonder if you could try this: pull the sofa and rug a bit away from the corner and angled the other way. In other words, the table and that side of the sofa facing the middle of the room somewhat. Then the rug won’t look like it‘s running into the wall.
