Always Afternoon - Yay or Nay?
Comments (5)Good to know. I mean, it is BJ's after all! The only other daylily they are selling is stella d'oro. It's hard for me to pass up a bargain on a plant, but this one just didn't speak to me at all. Actually, it did speak and it said, "yup, I'm a flower." That's it....See MoreCoffee table: Yay or Nay?
Comments (10)Not TOO bad, according to this from the Style at Home link that I will put below. But how wide and deep is it, and do you have enough space? I'm guessing it's approx 4 feet long, and it's height will make it 'seem' bigger, even though it's glass. How large is your room; how long is your sofa...Maybe do a mock-up of the size with newspaper, and then gauge the height. "Size matters - The standard height for coffee tables is from 16 to 18 inches, but may go as high as 21 inches. A higher table is a smart choice if you entertain frequently so that guests don't have to bend too much to set down their drinks. But, ultimately, the height of the adjacent upholstered pieces should determine the height of the table. One guideline is that a coffee table should be about the same height or one or two inches lower than the seat height of the sofa. The length of a coffee table should be about two-thirds the length of the sofa (not including arms). The width should be determined by how much room you have between the soft upholstered pieces and the table in your seating arrangement " leave at least 16 inches around each side of the table." Here is a link that might be useful: Coffee tables...See MoreTile all the way to the ceiling: yay or nay?
Comments (16)Counters are beech butcher block, waterloxed but no stain. I also thought all the way to the ceiling. It's so close anyway, seems silly to stop just shy. Contractor already said he would take the hood down so I can put up tile if I wanted it to go all the way up. God bless him, he knows my decision making abilities are impaired at this point in the project. I have tile samples on the way of all the above plus a few I didn't save pictures of. Will post back with actual images in situ once they arrive. Back to the sawdust......See MoreMirror above fireplace, yay or nay?
Comments (39)I don't see a problem with the slant at all, or with using art above a FP. Unless you are using it several hours a day I can't see how heat would be an issue. That being said, I love a round mirror above a FP. We have one and I purposely leaned/tilted it because when it was hung flat on the wall it reflected the glare from the recessed light in the ceiling. I've also used art in this space but changed to the mirror when we added the framed parka on the left. The mirror just seemed to balance things better. In your home a lot may depend on what you put on the walls to the left and right. Your FP is gorgeous! Whatever you do, it will be lovely. Enjoy your home :)...See Morebeckysharp Reinstate SW Unconditionally
