Built in for Roomba? Other floor cleaning thoughts
Comments (13)Why don't I think I want a full-fledged vacuuming system? Because I HATE vacuuming. Hate it with the red-hot fire of ten thousand suns. I despise it. While a built-in system might alleviate some of my hatred, I don't see it disappearing. I'm planning to have little carpet in our new house -- just an area rug for the living room and MAYBE carpet in the bedrooms. I can't see building in a whole system for that small bit -- not when a Roomba can do it for me. In contrast, I don't mind sweeping; thus, I'm thinking I'd like to have the kick-open dustpan thing . . . but I know I will not vacuum unless forced to do so. What's the phrase? Know thyself. As for toe-spaces under cabinets. No, my Roomba is too tall to fit under my current cabinets. However, I'm not sure I want toe-kicks in my new house at all. I am not quite 5' tall, and I'm investigating the idea of omitting them altogether -- I definitely wouldn't mind my cabinets being a few inches shorter. I've been reading on the internet, and people seem to be very split on the subject of whether these are necessary! I don't expect any electronic gadget to last forever, but it can always be replaced. However, this is a good point: Nothing of this sort should be built for one specific machine; rather, it should be built with the idea that it'll eventually be replaced or upgraded. A toe-kick drawer kind of thing was what I had in mind, but I couldn't find such a thing online -- do you know where you saw the picture? The only things I saw were kind of like curtains (or dust ruffles) that hid the machine. As for pushing her own way out (well, I'm not sure whether mine is male or female -- we're not that well aquainted yet) . . . no. The start button is on top of the machine, so I would need to pull it out and push the button. That is a very good point and one I must puzzle through....See MoreSlightly OT: How many people on this forum have Pets?
Comments (86)When I vacuum and put the kids floor pillows on the chair Her Royal Highness assumes her position: I had a post written up this morning that i forgot to post and subsequently closed the browser thinking I'd posted. Much shorter now: Replaced our worn out sofa w/ a white machine washable slipcovered one. I purposely bought it so that the dog could be on it. I throw the slips in the laundry w/ a crap load of bleach and they come out fantastically and the only thing that I haven't been able to fully get out was the gel ink stain from a pen that exploded a few weeks ago. Oh well! I have a white metalasse' throw that I put over the back of it because Poochina likes to lay on the back of the sofa and observe what goes on outside. I currently have faux leather chairs that wipe off easily and cleanly. When they are totally trashed someday I will replace w/ real leather because I know it works for my needs. I gave up heavy comforters a few yrs ago in lieu of machine washable quilts that I turn down when I'm home and the gal is following me around and when we go to work I pull it up all of the way and she sleeps up there until we come home. On her white sofa: Proving that no space is too small for her to squeeze into and cuddle w/ someone....See MoreDyson Cordless Vacuums
Comments (37)recordaras - both my Miele upstairs & downstairs canisters have the electric motorized carpet head and they work quite well. We have some faux oriental rugs in the kitchen, made of olefin (well, they are in the kitchen LOL) that grab and hold dog hair like nobody's business. My old beloved Hoover Wind Tunnel upright can't even pick it up. So I usually rub the carpets with sole of my shoe to get the hair or ball up, then hit it with the upright. Yesterday, I used my Miele canister carpet head and OMG the stuff came right up! Our son needs a new vac and put it in his Xmas wish list. I really wanted to get him a Sebo 'Felix', but there are no authorized service centers nowhere near him. No way is he going to ship anything anywhere for repair or whatever, especially with the long hours he works. So we bought him the Miele canister that Costco has online. I hope he likes it! * * *. It is so nice to have a support group for my vacuum cleaner addiction. All seven of them. LOL!!! Each one has a dedicated job. The best of the lot is the Panasonic canister vac I bought 30+ years ago. That motor refuses to die! It has lived in the basement/garage for ages and has even sucked up crud from the bottom of an outdoor grill. Kenmore bags still fit it, it takes a lickin' and keeps on ticking. (and if you are of a certain age, you will remember that old commercial.... :-))...See MoreVenting about what I can't have!!!
Comments (85)Good morning said my rechargered mouse)) ok..so the thing I wanted to say yesterday I guess would be: -your room is quite an accomplished story already. Of course, it can be written as a different story, That room can handle many genres so to say. Or it can be tweaked. but i wouldn't tweak it too much-because then the story will be different. Unless you want to do away with your story and rewrite it-I'd leave the story largely as is. True, there are things that people think a room benefits from as a rule-an infusion of color, a this, a that.. But some rooms, like some stories, they're written differently. And they're written well. And they are what they are. And this distinctiveness is authentic to a story they're telling. Add things you need for everyday function and comfort..the lamps..(I'd comb through Etsy..I have many there saved, but they're probably sold by now. I'm very much into lights, all sorts of lights. if I find something I'll post the link to it..)..maybe the pillow for the black chair if it'll bring more comfort to sit down in it(I've no idea whether you need it or not, obviously)..maybe a pillow with washable cover if you like to lounge on that blue sofa..you don't need a lot. Just needs to be good pillow..nice to touch..nice to fall asleep on.. I'd be able to leave that fireplace wall blank for years-until I find something that makes my heart stop. Or you can do plates, very successsfully-these or others..plenty of examples in some of the books I talked about earler. Or it can be a mirror so different they'll be able to be good friends, the existing one, the new one I wouldn't do any different blinds or treatments on the window-you got one already..and I would't miss curtains, even though I love fabrics and curtains,..it looks good as is. Elegant, reserved, a bit painfully beautiful. I wouldn't mourn not having a rug-sure you can have it still..and will look great..but it looks great now too, and I love penny's suggestion on how to repair the floors, it's authentic to the story In short-the story is yours, and you decide what to do with it, obviously but it's already there. it's shaped. and it's already good. and it's already a story that begs one to read it. so I, personally, wouldn't rewrite it. If I want to take a different book-I'd take a different book, But I like a book by this author, right now. Tweak it if you please, make it better for youself-but it's just editing a bit. You wrote a good one....See MoreRelated Professionals
