Attaching blackout lining to bamboo roman blinds
Comments (6)We've had the bamboo roman shades up for almost five years. A home was just built on the lot next to us so I felt that my teenage soon needed something more private. I cut a piece of drapery liner to fit the back of the shade and attached it at the top by hand sewing to the brown thread on the back of the blind that holds the slats together. I untied the cord from the rings, pulled the cord out (of just the rings) cut a small slit to fit the liner over the rings and then threaded the cord back through. I then attached the liner at the bottom of the blind by again hand sewing it to the thread that holds the slats. When raising or lowering the blinds you cannot tell they weren't made with the liner in place, meaning the liner and roman shade fold together. Like nanabella, I feel I lost the look of the woven blinds when the liner was added but his room is darker and more private now....See MoreCost of linen french pleat drapes?
Comments (14)You didn't answer whether this includes fabric or not. If not, it seems a bit high. Depends on location and other variables, tho. There is no 'one price fits all'. French pleats are nothing more than a fancy name for pinch pleats. I make mine totally by hand, so if they're using a machine to make them, they should actually be cheaper. Any pro curtainmaker is an expert at making pleats so just because they use a machine, does not make them any more an expert. Not sure what they mean by privacy liner. If they mean "blackout", that shouldn't make any huge difference in price....See MoreCan You Recommend Blackout Shades (or other) For This Guestroom?
Comments (9)Thank you for all suggestions thus far. We replaced the w/w with hardwood last summer & repainted the walls & trim. I was avoiding drapes or curtains in part so I wouldn't have fabric that would collect dust. The room felt so fresh and was so much easier to clean once the carpet was removed. I wanted to keep with that pared down look & feel. But I'm getting the feeling that I have to go with drapes that can be pulled together when needed if I want to also keep the blinds. I'm not in love with the blinds, but they allow light into the room on hot summer days and freezing winter ones. Otherwise, it's a couple of big windows bare to the elements with shades drawn or shades pulled down and a dark room for a good part of the year. Sheers would offer that diffused light during the day, but I definitely don't want to layer those and blackout drapes. I chose bedcovers & furnishings for this room to keep it gender neutral and wanted the same for window coverings. If you're struck with any other ideas, please let me know. Thanks -...See MoreDouble / dual roller shades with solar and blackout shades
Comments (4)This is what I did. We installed room darkening shades inside the window depth. Then, over them, we installed Duette linen pull up blinds. I also added drapes. In the evening I raise the Duettes and pull down the darkening shades, then the Duettes and it's pitch black in the room. I can't stand any light showing. I even taped the light on the phone and tv. This was ten years ago and still holding up like they were installed yesterday....See Moreaziline
