What decade do you think this sofa came from?

Any guesses? I know it has been reupholstered one time. It looks like the original fabric was a yellow or gold velvet (There's a small rip in the stitching on the top). It's slightly curved and has a scalloped top. I'm wondering if the upholstery is covering scalloped wood trim? Still deciding if I should keep it or not.

It looks like something from the 60s or 70s that replicated a Victorian style. Whether you keep it or not is totally up to you and the style of the rest of your home.

We should all look so good when we're 120! *Hijack alert* Hey I just found out that my beautiful leather garage sale find wasn't actually leather at all, it was naugahyde, and the old guy who I brought it to for reuplostering wanted $325 to re-cover it, re-tie the springs and re-do the webbing. He had some naugahyde in stock that was soft enough to "mark" when you sat on it, that is actually desirable to us crazies. And he would re-tack it, it has brass tacks too. Am I totally insane, not just a little touched? Is that a good deal, or do I need a rest in a little white room?? **back to our regularly scheduled program**

http://www.studiotreasure.com/articles/interior/Wall-Art.htm Graywings, I just googled how wide should a picture be, and found a couple decorators opinions saying 1/2-2/3. I hung the picture today, and cleared off the ledge. Big 50 party in two days, maybe I should start focusing on entertaining !! Thanks for everyones help. I will get back to decorating next week. Right now I'm looking for some strong men to dissassemble 4 pieces of reclining leather and move it to the basement, I don't think thats going to happen before Saturday either!!

gillylilly- It is a pottery barn rug which is sold out and they have no swatches. I have found it on eBay though. My main concern is the burgundy border since my sofa is a saddle or caramel color. My other concern is it may be too much green with the wall color. Still considering my options.

I save all plastic bags and give them to my sister to crochet mats for the homeless. She can use any that's he can cut loops out of including toilet paper ones if you open the ends instead of tearing down the side. I takes 5 or 600 bags to make one mat. she can also use dry cleaning bags, .like I said it would be any cylindrical bags. The mats are 6 ft long and 2 1/2 feet wide and have a carrying handle and loops to hold them together when they carry them. I save bread bags. I use those for all kinds of things. I guess o got that from my DM. I have just started using worn out socks for rags. My DH goes through socks fast. I use single slippers for on my Swiffer. I saved the bottom part of my old litter box and cleaned it up really good and use that for soaking clothes in OXy CLean. I also save twisty ties. I have some of those nut jars too. Mine had fruit in them at the restaurants I cooked at. Here is the big one. I save almost all of the glass jars that I get. I use them for canning. If they have the rubber inside of the lid they work. I like the small ones, so if I want to give something to somebody They don't have to return the jar. I always make pickled beets and give some away. I boil the lids just like I would Kerr or Ball lids and fill the jars and screw them on tight. I had one jar that wouldn't work once because the lid wouldn't tighten. It just kept turning. I just made sure I used that one first. then I threw it away. I also put other things in them

Don't recover it yet again, unless it is to die for comfy. and you lose the skirt entirely and reduce the amount of tufting.

I would say 60s as well, looks like a reproduction. I actually love it and would reupholster it. I would get rid of the skirt, and I agree with Jan, reduce the amount of tufting. I would do this in deep beautiful color in the green or blue family. I think I would pair it up with more modern tables and sleeker taller chairs. Don't feel like the rest of the room needs to have this style. The sofa is enough. I think it's pretty cool.

I think it might be earlier - perhaps late 1940's or 1950's. With these kinds of styles, it really is difficult to date accurately because people were buying furniture that was not necessarily iconic of a specific period.

Normally I am in favor of reupholstering vintage furniture that you own - or which has very unique features which can't be replicated by modern manufacturers such as beautiful carved wood - or even beautiful wood :-,

However if you absolutely LOVE this style, you can have it duplicated - or even used as inspiration for a tweaked design - by a local upholstery shop for the same price. The only thing salvageable is the frame which is not the costly part of upholstering or reupholstering or even having custom furniture made.

I fell in love with an Art Deco sofa and am having it made by the same shop which is reupholstering my vintage pieces.
