Epidendrum brown/black spots - fungus?

About 2 yrs ago, a friend gave me a keiki from an epidendrum she just bought. The plant already had spots on the leaves then. New stem and leaves don't initially show the spots but do so as they got older.

This website ( http://www.sdorchids.com/culture_docs/epi_article01.htm ) says "... susceptible to a leaf spotting fungus that causes round brown spots on the undersides of the leaves, but which does not seen to adversely affect the health or flowering of the plant. " That appears to be true for my epi - keeps growing and the leaves look fine except for the spots.

Is it really a fungus? What's the name of the fungus that causes this? Can the fungus be killed?

I have other orchids (Phalaenopsis and Vanda) in the house. They don't have any leaf disease.
