We are expecting our second child and eventually we will be moving my toddler from her nursery to the extra room which will be her new room. I’ve heard the advice on making the transition before baby comes but my family is out of state and will be coming to stay with us a lot before and after the birth to help so we will keep her in her nursery during this time. In fact the baby will most likely sleep in a bassinet and crib in our room for the first 9 months. When we do finally make the transition moving my daughter into a big girl room she will have just turned 3. Occasionally when our parents come to visit we would like to have her stay in our room and use her bedroom as a guest room. Any thoughts on a trundle bed vs a queen bed? The majority of the year my daughter will be using it so I’ve been told that should be our priority in the decision which makes sense and my mom has already said a trundle is fine for her and my dad but I just don’t know, it doesn’t seem like they would be comfortable but I’ve never owned one. We have a queen in that room now but the problem is if we have a third child I feel a move to bunk beds may feel small for her? Also a queen seems big for a child that small but maybe it’s fine? Anyways I’d like to know if anyone has personal or design experience with a set up like this. Thanks in advance!!

My daughter moved from the crib to a full sized bed at two since we needed the crib for baby #3. She never had a problem. I did get the flip up mesh rails to keep her from falling out. We also used her bed for guest. A queen is not much bigger than a full, so I think that would be fine. You could put a trundle in your room or a sleeper ottoman for your daughter when she is too big to sleep in your bed and you have guest.

Btydrvn -these were a couple room inspiration photos that I found labelled as farmhouse- I don’t want a room with an identity crisis 🥴😂 what should I be calling this look or what style should I be aiming for so I’m minimizing the current crisis. I love the chandelier, wall color and bedding and am trying to make the bed frame work by painting it as it’s a spare that we already had and mom guilt prevents me from buying new. Bench was second hand etc.

Hello there, Sharon! Yes, I understand what you mean. The room’s primary purpose needs to be a Baby’s Room. The twin bed will be for nights that hubby and I may have to lay in the room with baby, etc. Small office space: little desk and chair for occasional computer business use. I’m looking to make it all flow where everything will coordinate and flow with baby’s theme and or decor. Thank you!

I would use the den as TV area with TV between the built-in bookcases. Then do a back-to-back arrangement with two sofas (they don't have to match) and a rolling sofa table between them. The one in the den would be the guest bed. When you have guests, simply roll the sofa table under a window and close the sliding door. As an office, place a desk facing the window if you need good light for online conferences, or put it on the wall if you don't do that. A rolling desk chair can move out of the way for the sofa to be opened. In the living room side, use a round dining table in the corner right of the fireplace. A coffee table 12-18" from the sofa and perhaps a pair of small scale upholstered armchairs in an "L" with the sofa, their backs to the window. Art, not TV, above the mantel.

Thanks @arcy_gw. I looked into roller shades after you mentioned them. They are rather pricey. I was thinking shorter curtains though because you are right, baby girl will swing on anything! The crib converts to a toddler then full size bed. I looked into wall decals for the wall with the crib. But without painting the wall, my options are very limited.
