Absolutely not. You can do whatever you want. The only suggestion would be to match the style of the house. I.e. A super modern white kitchen in a homey cottage would be a bit jarring or if the rest of the house is oak and traditional.

Just to close out this thread for future reference - painted the crown white in all areas where it was not over the cabinets, and it looks a LOT better. Should have been done that way from the start. Left the crown over the cabinets (which is the same design, just different color) as white chocolate, which also looks right. The only tricky part in this was painting the crown where the two colors meet. I did a decent but not perfect job, I will probably go back over it with a fine paintbrush to get a perfect line.

Yes, the easiest way is to use the same paint color on the ceiling as the trim. However, the sheen for the ceiling should be flat while trim is better in a semi-gloss

Thank you for your input. My cabinets are currently being installed, so I only have a picture of my kitchen in progress. I didn’t mention that I am having Silestone Eternal Calacatta Gold quartZ counters. I’m drawn to a crisp clean white, not necessarily a stark white. I was originally going to paint my cabinets Simply White, but I thought it was to creamy next to the white of the quartz counters, and chantilly lace went better. Am I wrong? Does Simply White go better? The backsplash I’m planning will be a “handmade” 3x12 subway tile from Tile Bar, called Lancaster Bianco. I’m attaching a pic of my remodel in progress and my tile selection. I just spent 5 days giving my walls 3 coats of Simply White Disregard the floor. We are replacing that too. That is still TBD.
