Is SS / Granite the new shag carpet and avocado green?
Comments (47)My personal speculation... stainless steel will eventually go out of style and looked dated and industrial. Granite will stay in style because it's functional, durable (won't look worn, discolor, chip, and peel like laminate, for instance), and has enough variety to please plenty of people. My prediction for coming trends, fwiw, the high-gloss cabinets (in woods or bright colors) that you now see in the mags, and honed granite or soapstone counters to contrast with a matte finish. Possibly not necessarily *together* though (high-gloss may end up paired with polished granite and matte granite with non-glossy cabinets). Not my style, but both seem to be gaining traction in design mags and for the high-gloss cab's, even places like Home Depot, which suggests its popularity with the masses. We shall see, ay? ;P...See MoreAvocados
Comments (47)Superior Grocery is a chain that features uber low prices for often lower quality products. It depends. When I visit my mom (just east of L.A.) several times a year, we head to Superior for a limited number of items -- by no means do we pick up most of our grocery list there. I didn't find their small avocados appreciably smaller then your larger chain stores' (Vons/Safeway/Albertsons/Pavilions, Kroger/Ralph's). When DH and I lived in SoCal, we had access to the most incredible home-grown avocados -- rather took it for granted, looking back. MIL and DH's aunt both lived in Anaheim, and their trees yielded large avocados with smallish seeds and delicious buttery-ness. MIL's was a dwarf tree that was largely neglected (save a handful of fertilizer tossed at the base when one remembered to!), and aunt's was a decades old ginormous creature. DH and I usually don't purchase avocados for the purpose of making guac: that'd simply encourage too much chip eating. :p...See MoreAvocado Recipes, Please
Comments (23)My favorite is to eat with some lemon or lime juice and salt - sliced or scooped out of the skin. & I shared this awhile back. It's a recipe from my sister in CA who has an avocado tree in her backyard. She always has more avos than she knows what to do with. I did not have spinach leaves, so I made it using all fresh basil leaves. It's originally from https://www.thekitchn.com/ Creamy Avocado Pasta Serves 4 What You Need Ingredients 12 ounces dry spaghetti or pasta 2 ripe medium avocados (about 6 ounces each), halved and pitted 1/2 cup lightly packed fresh basil leaves 1/2 cup lightly packed baby spinach leaves 2 cloves garlic 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice 1 teaspoon kosher salt 1/4 cup olive oil Optional for serving: Parmesan cheese shavings, cherry tomatoes, or chopped fresh basil leaves Equipment Measuring cups and spoons Chef's knife Cutting board Large pot Colander Blender Tongs Large bowl Blender Instructions 1. Cook the pasta. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente, 8 to 10 minutes, or according to package directions. Meanwhile, make the sauce. 2. Make the sauce. Scoop the avocado flesh into a blender. Add the basil, spinach, garlic, lemon juice, and salt. Blend until smooth, about 1 minute. With the blender running, drizzle in the olive oil and blend until incorporated; set aside. 3. Drain the pasta. Drain the pasta in a colander, then transfer to a large bowl. 4. Toss the pasta with the sauce. Pour the sauce from the blender onto the pasta and toss to coat. Serve immediately. Recipe Notes Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, but the color may darken....See MoreA tip that works - Avocado
Comments (27)Just found this tip for stale baguettes. We love baguettes because we prefer crust to interiors, so the baguette ratio is preferable. But unless we eat the whole thing, we have 2 choices. Store it in its paper bag and play baseball the next day. Or store it in plastic and it loses all the crustiness. But, if you store it in paper, you can revive it the next day. First run it underwater, and then pop it right on the over rack for a few minutes, ti comes out perfect. Amazing. Like new. https://www.bonappetit.com/test-kitchen/cooking-tips/article/how-to-revive-stale-bread...See More- 7 years ago
