help with family room end table/lamp PICS
Comments (7)Justgotabme, my husband thinks the table is too "interesting." LOL! I like it, but think maybe the scale is off with the tall narrow table and the kind of tall lamp and then the big chair and tall ceilings. So I was trying to figure out if it's the table or the lamp--hence my thought that maybe I should get a larger width table and table lamp. But then I wonder if a larger table and table lamp is going to look crowded and squat next to the TV? I thought about your idea moving the rug. I don't think I can as the sectional backs a wall of cabinets (not visible in the pics). The entry way into the room is between the sectional and couch. That is why the recliner is over too the side. The rug wouldn't be large enough to encompass the sectional and recliner. And there is not enough room with the cabinets to angle it. The pics def make it look like your idea would be better....See MoreWhat height lamps for bedside tables/night tables?

Comments (13)I would pass on the rug. It is pretty, but I don't like it in combination with the plaid sofa. Pretty tables - I would scootch them closer to the sofa. Love the lamps and the wall color. I would think about moving the picture to the left and then adding two things (pictures or something else), one over the other so that they take up the same space in height as the picture. (As in your before picture.) The goal is to fill the space above the sofa so that 3/4 to 7/8 of the space is filled up. Adding something on each side of the picture will work, but IMO is too staid for the comfy, informal look you have going....See MoreTable lamps on end tables next to sofa - ideal height?
Comments (1)Instead of a drum shade you could choose a tapered shade with a narrow opening at the top. There are some lamps that are completely closed at the top, usually with metal or glass shades (probably because an enclosed shade could get too hot with a high wattage bulb for other materials). There are lots of Tiffany-style table lamps with dome or closed tapered shades, if that suits your style. Another option would be to get a tall lamp with a tall shade. Something with this kind of proportions: Another option would be to use a swag lamp rather than a table lamp. It gives you a bit more flexibility in placement, and might open up new opportunities....See Morepensivern
