Comments (15)Great feedback on these newer Kordes roses I'm also considering - thank you each & all! Patty, a pair of Polar Expresses from Chamblee's this year grew tall for me, too, arching gracefully as the canes gained height. Repotted into 3-gallons & then into 5's, they're certainly vigorous. Allowed only a few of the tips to bloom & pinched off the rest, going for root growth & branching before planting out. Hot Summer here in contrast to your cool one, so this may be the early habit of Polar Express. Short laterals grew late in the season as the weather cooled & a long Indian Summer began. The growth reminds me of Golden Celebration at that age, and I'm wondering if Polar Express might be coaxed into climbing, as the canes are still pliable. The blooms were quite lovely - pale yellow buds that opened creamy white with yellow hearts, gradually losing the center tint. They held fresh longer than any other rose bloom here - a full 2 weeks - before shedding their petals cleanly, in full ESE sun till 3 pm. Larger than expected at 3" on these babies & the scent was stronger than anticipated - spicy fruity - at least 6 on a scale of 10. Impeccable health in this hot & humid no spray garden. Very pleased with these new friends....See MoreAny updates on Addictive Lure and Earth Angel?
Comments (12)Some Hybrid teas can get rather tall. Don't believe what it says on the sticker, ask someone who lives in your area! Actually, thats true on most things about roses- disease pressure really varies from place to place. I have a few in containers that do ok, although they dont bloom as often as they would if they were in the ground. Princesse de Monaco is the current favourite, mainly because I recently repotted it into a larger container and it just produced the most awesome flush of blooms... If its only a couple of years you should be ok to keep most roses in a container, as long as you have somewhere to put it if/when it gets too big.. Main hints are, good quality well draining potting mix, a large enough container with a decent amount of holes ( a lot of the fancier ones are useless in this regard, be prepared to drill extra), and getting the watering right. Not sure of the weather where you are, here if it gets really hot, that can mean twice a day. Oh and sunlight- make sure it gets enough :) but, again, if it gets hot, be careful about radiant heat... you could try polyanthas if you like heirloom roses. They bloom a lot, and tend to stay smallish for longer.. But if you want more detailed answers, you should make your own post with a bit more detail, like, where you are, and what you would like in a rose such as colour, wether you want cut flowers, or fragrance, or everything! that way its easier to make suggestions, and you will get more responses. There are loads of posters here that love encouraging people to get hooked on roses hehe...See MoreSo excited to get Earth Angel
Comments (20)Mine looked like yours last year, Palytoxin. This year, it’s starting to bear resemblance to the marketing photos. The blooms look chewed up and ragged, and are pretty small. It could be the storms, thrips, or earwigs. None of my Austin’s look bad, though. Earth Angel is outside my front door. So far, it can’t hold a candle to Desdemona on the other side of the entry:...See MoreEarth Angel - OMG !
Comments (47)@suebelle_neworleans That is SO stunning. Mine throws out theses really tall branches. Do you prune it often? Is it in full sun? Does the grafted bloom more than own root. Mine is an own root, which went from band to 2-3 ft in one year but does not bloom with same profusion as yours.....See Moresbrklyn_7bny
