Floor Plan Review-5th Prelim
Comments (24)Virgil and Bevangel, Thank you for your expertise and time. I just sent revisions off...with the second plan and the ability to either cut down the shower size, but still be a twofer, Bevangel, sadly we are not small either;), always a work in progress. Thanks too for reviewing the original structure. My initial instinct was to not see the addition from the front but I think the right side bump will work if I'm careful with finishes. Virgil, We are rolling with next set and elevations and I'm prepared to revert more towards the first rendition (5th prelim shown above) if exterior and roof are not functional and attractive. The fireplace is on the left and will stay there and since it's gas it won't steal space rom the girl's room as the built-ins can hide some variance. I'll post when the next set is in (2-3 weeks). I will hurry up and wait. *wondering* Kirkhall, hope your toes are in the sand and it's sunny;). Haven't "seen" you in a few days. Thank you everyone!...See MoreDoorbell chimes and other mysteries
Comments (17)I so understand the ugly chime box problem! We had a good hardwired doorbell with a pleasant chime and a hideous 1950's plastic wood-grained curlicue-infested box. I had a piece of 4" x 1/4" light wood (it might have been balsa from the craft store) with a bull-nosed edge, so I made a box out of that. I started with an interior frame I nailed together out of scrap 1X2 strips. I stapled a double layer of copper screening over that, and cut the balsa to fit snugly around it. I mitered the cuts on the balsa so the box would look cleanly finished, and painted the box to match the wall. Then I cut two little bits of sticky-back velcro, and stuck them on the upper edge of the chime works and the upper inside edge of the box. It was so light in weight that it only needed a little encouragement to stay up there. Worked like a charm, looked good, and made me inordinately proud of myself!...See MoreHow to get a heavy older TV down the stairs and out of the house?
Comments (74)Elizabeth, my comments were based on my experiences. Not too many years ago, I offered an old CRT large screen TV we'd decommissioned to the salvadoreño who does work in and around our house. He chuckled and said in half Spanish and half English that his extended family had pooled their money to buy a big screen TV at Costco for the men to watch futbol and for the evening shows for the women in the family. My last visit to the cable store was to return a settop TV box (after I'd switched to DISH). The people in front of me in line were modestly dressed Spanish speaking women who paid their bills in cash, using mostly singles and also coin change. When people are spending extended time at the counter because of the need to count and recount cash, it's not hard to see what's going on. As you said, you and most others pay these bills with autopay or another online means. Those who are illiterate, or who don't have the credentials to get a bank account, pay bills in cash. And such people are typically hard working folks of very modest means. That was what I saw....See MoreSubaru Outback vs. Honda CRV vs Nissan Rogue...2019 models
Comments (66)I wanted to come back and give an update on my Honda CRV 2018. My Collision Mitigation System (CMS) suddenly and without warning activated. I was driving on the interstate at about 65 mph in the left lane when the brakes went to the floor and we decelerated to 30 mph in seconds before the brakes released. I was terrified and truly lucky the cars behind me were able to slow or get out of the way. Honda's only answer was, "this has happened with a few cars, and we don't see anything in your computer, but we could disconnect your CMS." This is not an answer. I am waiting now for an answer from Honda of North America. I did not pay for the more expensive model with (CMS) just to turn it off and I don't want to be killed or cause anyone else to be injured or killed. Just a warning about Honda's. I will post a separate thread with the resolution of this issue. Hopefully Honda will fix the issue and do the safe and correct thing....See MoreAJCN
