Please help me save my plant (Corn Plant?)
Comments (3)Hello! it is Draceana Janet Craig. Not compacta, what it looks like is inconsistent watering mixed with no humidity. What i would do is since this plant works wonderfully when pruned is you can cut this plant into 12 inch peaces and push them into a fresh pot with dirt. Water until evenly moist and allow to completely dry out inbetween waterings. This makes a fuller more beautiful plant. ALSO you can cut about 8 inches below the first leaves that show up on the stalk. it will grow new heads from the cut stalks and the bushiness of the crowns will camouflage the naked stems that were left. goodluck! and post anywhere you want:) thats what we're here for!...See MoreEmergency !!! Comments (1)Congratulations! I know how it feels...my banana plant (his name is Rupert) just sprouted a pup a few weeks ago. Other members could probably give you more detailed advice, but here's what I know: Wait until the pup is at least 1 ft. tall before you cut it off. You want it to be nice and strong, and capable of withstanding transplant. Seeing as how you're in Massachusetts, I would wait until spring or summer, when it can make a quick comeback. Second, when you go to make the cut, do it with a strong, sharp-ish, preferably sterile garden trowel. Make sure you cut at an angle into the mother plant in order to get enough roots. 30 degrees seems to be adequate. Once you've made the first cut, cut in a circle around the baby (not too close), make one final scoop, and pop him right out of the ground. It's just that easy. From there, you can plant the baby in its own pot. You may wish to keep it out of DIRECT sunlight for the first week or two, just to be safe. Good luck!...See MorePlease help me with my new Banana Plant? (pics)
Comments (11)Hi Matt, I've got a pot for it. The temperatures during the day are in the low 20's and drops down to around 10-12 deg. at night. My plant will be transplanted this afternoon and placed in the sun on the south side. I hope regular potting soil will be suitable? You said "good" potting soil but I don't know what that would consist of. My husband just picked up a bag at the store today. Thanks Matt....See MoreTako Y
