washing latex foam pillows
Comments (9)Do not understand the red color, but you should never use chlorine on latex. There is a chemical reaction that will cause the latex to beciome brittle, and crumble. It is possible that your pillow had clay added to latex, but usually the additives are grey clay, not red. (They add clay to extend the latex, and bring the cost down). Several other points. Never wash a feather or down pillow. While the material is washable, it degrades with heat or sunlight. The material is too dense to effectively air dry, and mildew will result. As for the polyester pillow that "lumped" it was no doubt a non siliconized fiber. (very cheap) When drying a polyester pillow, the more heat the better. The heat actually restores the fiber to their original thickness. Dry with a tennis shoe in the dryer. As for those old latex pillows, the sole US manufacturer of latex pillows had their factory blow up several years ago in Shelton CT. No one else makes them in the US because the molds cost almost 1 million to make. The only supplier left around is Dunlop in England. Due to prohibitive freight costs, it is rare to find in the US. finally never allow a latex pillow near any heat or ignition point. They catch on fire quickly,...See Moremattress topper: latex vs. memory foam? 1' vs. 2'?
Comments (11)The topper is just a temporary fix. You will usually start to feel the discomfort again when in a couple of years. Usually people buy too hard of a mattress and they don't get the support that you need. When you lay on a mattress it should conform to you back or side. Lay on the mattress the same way that you sleep. Never go shopping for a mattress by price. Find the comfort that you like and then talk price with the salesperson. In general, I tell my customers to plan on spending at least $1200.00 for a new mattress. Again, don't use this as a guide to shop with, but more as an eye opener to be ready for the price. Most people would be happier on Platinum Dreams, Restonic, or Simmons. These are my favorite brands in order. Comments (0)Hi all. I'm launching a mattress hunt. My brief: I'm a stomach sleeper and I've always liked a very firm mattress but am nearing 50, getting achey and heavier, pressure points matter a lot more than last time I thought about this issue. The bed needs to accommodate one person and a rotating cast of dogs. 2 questions: 1) I'd planned to steer clear of memory foam because I don't especially care for my mom's thick m-foam topper, which I've tried, and because of the concern about heat. I'm much more prone to overheating than under - approaching menopause, sleeping with dogs - not likely to get cooler around here any time soon. Today, though, I stopped at one of those discount chains to see what the current range from the big-name makers was, and I kind of fell in love with the firmest model in Serta's iSeries line. It's an innerspring mattress with a very thin layer on top of memory foam with gel mixed in - just enough to cushion the pressure points. The gel mixture is supposed to solve the heat problem with the memory foam. I basically don't believe that for a minute, but I wondered if anyone had had any experience with the gel-foam combos - either in this line, or the iComfort, which is gel foam all the way through, or another brand's version. Any opinions? 2) For those in the DC area, are there any mattress dealers you'd particularly recommend? I was going to check out the latex mattresses at Savvy Rest Natural Bedroom in Vienna, and the ones Room and Board sells. Any other specialty retailers to check out? Thanks!...See MoreMemory foam topper - zones?
Comments (6)I bought ours several years ago and we love it! I then went on to buy one for our guest room bed and one for our daughter's bed. When DS was in grad school, we bought him one for that bed. Two years ago, I sent one to my parents for their Florida home and they tell me that they've never slept better than they do on this topper. They went out and bought one for their Michigan place, as they said they couldn't sleep without one anymore (LOL!). All have the different comfort body zones. The only suggestion I can give you is to buy the 2" or 3" toppers and not the thicker ones. When I was looking for mine, several people on a decorating forum like this told that they'd purchased the thicker ones and none of their fitted sheets would fit over them. All of the ones we now have are 2 1/2" or 3" and the fitted sheets work fine with them. Lynn...See MoreAkimbo
